The process

Barbecue food is best straight off the grill, so we cook to order through service. Slow-cooked meats are ready as soon as service begins, which keeps the queue moving. A summer barbecue in Bitterne stays light until about 9:25pm at midsummer, so an evening barbecue can run late in daylight. By late September, sunset is nearer 7:10pm.

  1. First, you send us your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive in good time, put the cover up and get the barbecue hot.
  4. We cook and serve when you are ready to eat.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Keep the grill downwind of the seating
  • Let us know about tight access
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain

FAQs for Bitterne

Do you cater at venues in the New Forest National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We’ll follow the site rules.

Roughly 68 miles from the centre of London.

Can it be a sit-down meal?

Yes, on plates with salads, coleslaw and potatoes, and china is available on request.

How much choice do we need?

Three or four meats plus the vegetarian and vegan options suits most groups. A shorter menu also speeds up service.

Beef burgers, sausages, chicken skewers, BBQ ribs, pulled pork and beef brisket, plus vegetarian and vegan options. Add salads, coleslaw and potatoes.

Do you offer halal meat?

Our BBQ planning guide

Working with your venue

For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

Booking for a club or group? A single point of contact keeps things simple, especially on the day.

Allergies and dietary needs

We give full allergen information for every dish. To help:

  • Mention any guests who avoid beef
  • Collect dietary needs with the RSVPs
  • Check the allergen information for sauces and marinades
  • Think about who does not eat pork or beef so the menu has enough choice

Pulled pork and brisket are ready from the moment service begins, which takes the pressure off the grill.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

A barbecue or other catering?

Compared with a hog roast, a barbecue offers more variety, with beef, chicken and pork rather than one main meat. A hog roast feeds everyone at once and makes a centrepiece, so for bigger events, why not both?. Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote. Tell us the exact address so the quote is accurate.

Why book with us

Space, access and the venue

Most gardens, yards, car parks and fields can take a barbecue if a few things are right. A quick checklist:

  • A thought for the wind direction, so smoke drifts away from guests
  • Parking near the grill
  • Room for a serving table next to the grill

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.
