Hog roast for fêtes, festivals and school events, slow-roasted on site
At a fête or festival, the smell of a hog roast draws people across the field. We roast on the pitch through the day and carve rolls to order, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling, so the food is hot and the queue keeps moving.
Rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers and a vegan burger or sausage give visitors a choice. Tell us how the event works (a catered package paid by you, or a stall selling to visitors) along with the pitch, expected crowds and timings, and we’ll suggest what fits.

How it works
- Organisers send us the date, site, expected numbers and how food will be paid for.
- We check the pitch, access and any event paperwork, then quote.
- We arrive early, set up on the pitch under cover and start roasting.
- We carve and serve through the agreed hours.
- We pack down, take our waste away and leave the pitch clean.
Paperwork
Event organisers often ask traders for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Tell us what your event needs and we’ll confirm what we can provide.
Ground and access
Fields can be soft after rain. Tell us the vehicle route onto the pitch, and plan a firm area if you can.

A hog roast compared with other event catering
| Option | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Hog roast | One roast feeds a crowd; carved hot in front of guests; no kitchen needed | It’s pork, so add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options; needs an outdoor cooking spot |
| Barbecue | Casual and familiar | Food comes off in batches; someone has to stand at the grill |
| Food vans | Quick, informal street food | Each order is cooked separately, so big groups can mean queues |
| Cold buffet | Simple; no cooking on site | Food sits out; nothing hot on a cold evening |
| Plated meal | Formal and traditional | Needs a kitchen, more staff and usually costs more per head |
What your quote should include

- Staff to carve, serve and clear
- Plates or china
- Arrival time and how long the roast takes

- What the cooking area needs
- Allergen information
- Whether VAT is included
Hog roast for fêtes, festivals and school events: questions
Do you trade at fêtes and school fairs?
Yes. Tell us the date, the pitch and how food will be paid for, and we’ll tell you what we can offer.
Can visitors pay for their own food?
That depends on the event. Tell us how you’d like it to work and we’ll discuss the options.
Do you need power?
The roaster runs on gas. A power supply can help with lighting, so tell us what’s available on site.
Can you do a charity fundraiser?
Tell us about the event and how you’d like to raise money, and we’ll suggest a way to make it work.
Where do you cater?
Across London and the South East: Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight. Find your area.
How do I get a quote?
Send us your date, venue or postcode, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat through our quote form, and we’ll reply with a price.
