Care home hog roast for Greatstone-on-Sea

Your questions about a hog roast day in Greatstone-on-Sea

Is Greatstone-on-Sea too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Can you do a hog roast in Romney Warren Country Park?

Only if the landowner, normally the council, allows it. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

Do you cook in the kitchen?

Outdoors under cover, on a level spot clear of emergency access and away from opening windows.

What about residents who don’t eat pork?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Please note we don’t offer halal meat.

What happens in bad weather?

We cook under a gazebo, so rain is not a problem for the roast. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

Do you cover Greatstone-on-Sea?

Yes. We cater across London and the South East, including Greatstone-on-Sea and Kent. Send us the address for a quote.

Will there be enough to go round?

We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we’ll talk it through when we quote.

Can residents with swallowing difficulties have the hog roast?

Modified meals should come from your kitchen. We will give your team the information they need.

The menu, dish by dish

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Choose from salads, new potatoes, coleslaw and roast or jacket potatoes, depending on the season and the occasion.

Roast pork

Slow-roasted pork is the heart of the menu: carved in front of you, a mix of shoulder and leg, and served hot.

Planners, venues and businesses

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We work to the site’s rules.

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers.

Looking after everyone

Tell us about dietary needs early and we will help. Tips:

  • Count residents who need an alternative
  • Request thin slices
  • Include staff and visitors in your numbers
  • Share residents’ dietary needs with us in good time

Give us a contact, such as the activities lead.

Plates rather than rolls suit many residents.

A hog roast compared with other options

A hog roast can be part of a wider event. Midweek and quieter months are frequently easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Ask us and we will suggest the best fit for your budget.

Why us?

  • No surprises: everything in writing
  • Carved to order by a chef
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow

What the cooking area needs

We need room to cook safely and under cover. Things to check:

  • Approval from the home
  • Away from windows that open and residents’ rooms

How the day works

On the day, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, worked back from your serving time. For a summer hog roast day in Greatstone-on-Sea, residents can enjoy the garden in daylight until about 9:15pm, so an afternoon in the garden works well. In December, with dark by about 3:50pm, lunchtime is best.

  1. Your activities lead or manager gets in touch with a date.
  2. Photos of the grounds help us choose a safe spot.
  3. Your kitchen team tells us about diets and textures.
  4. On the day the hog roasts outside while residents watch from the lounge or garden.
  5. Lunch is carved and served, and we pack away quietly afterwards.

Preparing for the day

  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Name a contact for the day
