Film set catering for your shoot in Dymchurch

Rural and period locations near Dymchurch can be miles from anywhere to eat, so a hog roast at base keeps the crew fed. Popular choices include rotisserie chicken, salads and hog roast rolls, and typical bookings are for lunch at base and music video days.

Shoots around Dymchurch frequently use houses, farms and lanes. Let us know about access. The hog is roasted on site at your shoot, slowly, over several hours.

How the day works

Serving is straightforward: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. Late-September shoots near Dymchurch lose the light at about 7:00pm, so a late wrap needs lighting at base.

  1. You send the location, date and lunch call.
  2. We check access to base and quote.
  3. We agree our position at base with the location manager.
  4. We roast through the morning and carve fast when lunch is called.
  5. We pack away straight after service.

Preparing for the day

  • Have a level outdoor spot ready
  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps

What to look for in a quote

  • The space, cover and access they need
  • If the price includes VAT
  • What the price includes, item by item
  • How many staff will carve and serve

A closer look at the menu

Spit-roast lamb

With lamb as well, there are two roasts to choose from, which works well for larger groups.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Add salads, coleslaw and potatoes to make it a proper meal, especially at a sit-down event.

Prices and what affects them

The biggest factors are:

  • How long the roast and service take
  • The number of people
  • Plates or china
  • The journey to the venue

When comparing prices, compare the same things: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

What we need to know

Good details mean a good quote. Useful details:

  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • An estimate of numbers
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, along with your serving time. We’ll confirm availability and send a price. Send us your details through our quote form.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Most people love a hog roast, but it is pork. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans
  • Plan separately for halal if needed
  • Share the allergen list with the crew
  • Keep vegetarian food labelled

If lunch moves, we hold the roast a little; just let us know.

Ask for gluten-free rolls.

Is a hog roast right for your shoot?

Compared with sandwiches from a shop, a hot hog roast keeps morale up. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest what works.
