Planning an event in Herne Pound?

A hog roast compared with other options

Next to a full location catering unit, a hog roast is simpler and suits smaller shoots and one-off days. When comparing prices, compare the same things: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

Why us?

  • Carved to order by a chef
  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Sides to make it a full meal

About our film set catering in Herne Pound

Chicken, lamb, halloumi skewers and a vegan option cover most crews, and we provide allergen information for every dish. For end-of-shoot wraps and commercials and music videos, we will put together a menu of spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken and halloumi skewers.

For a shoot in a place like Herne Pound, tracks and soft ground need checking. You will know what’s included before booking: serving times, the menu, staff and anything else agreed, with no surprises on the day.

About the food

Roast pork

We carve as we serve, so it stays hot and juicy right to the last roll.

Spit-roast lamb

Lamb roasted on the spit is a lovely alternative to pork, and handy for anyone who does not eat pork.

Perfect for your shoot in Herne Pound

There are options for non-pork eaters.

Here’s what people in Herne Pound most often book a hog roast for:

  • Location days
  • End-of-shoot wraps
  • Lunch at base
  • Farm and estate locations

Historic houses near Herne Pound include Old Soar Manor (2.5 miles west) and Ightham Mote (4.7 miles west). Period locations like these normally keep catering well away from the house, so agree the base early.

What a hog roast costs

There’s no fixed price list, since every event is different. The main factors are:

  • The serving time and how long we are on site
  • Distance from us
  • Whether you want china
  • Access to the cooking area

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Getting an accurate quote

When you enquire, please mention:

  • Rough numbers
  • Any venue rules
  • The date and time of the event
  • What the outdoor space is like

Your questions about a hog roast for the crew in Herne Pound

Is Herne Pound too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

What’s the nearest station to Herne Pound?

Wateringbury station, about 2.2 miles south-east of the centre.

Can you work around our timings?

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

Can you cater our wrap?

We do. Tell us the date and location.

Do you leave the area tidy?

Our staff clear up after service, and leave the area tidy.

What space does the roaster need?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, and a way to wheel everything in. Send us a picture if you’re unsure.

What’s the price?

Each event is priced on its own, depending on numbers, menu, timings and travel. Ask us for a quote.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it’s several hours. We’ll confirm our arrival time when we quote.

Looking after everyone

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. Here are a few tips:

  • Collect crew dietary needs from the call sheet
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans
  • Remember stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Count crew needing an alternative

We serve quickly on the call.

Ask for gluten-free rolls.

Planners, venues and businesses

If you’re a venue or event planner, we can fit around your other suppliers.

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before booking. We will work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

How it works

Here’s how the day generally runs: the roaster goes up and the hog goes on, the pork cooks slowly for hours, and we carve and serve at the agreed time. In December, daylight in Herne Pound ends around 3:50pm, so the unit base needs lighting for late service. Summer shoots have daylight until about 9:20pm.

  1. You send the location, date and lunch call.
  2. We check access to base and quote.
  3. We agree our position at base with the location manager.
  4. When lunch is called, we carve and serve quickly.
  5. We pack away straight after service.

Before we arrive

  • Give us a contact number for the day
  • Let us know about tight access
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
