Film set catering in Hilsea, carved to order

The process

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. On a winter shoot near Hilsea, the light goes by about 4:00pm, so a late lunch or wrap at base needs lighting. Summer shoots have daylight until about 9:20pm.

  1. We start with the location, call times and numbers.
  2. You get a check on access and a quote.
  3. We agree our position at base with the location manager.
  4. We carve to order the moment lunch is called.
  5. We pack away straight after service.

How to prepare

  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with a full location caterer, a hog roast suits single days and smaller crews. Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

Why book our hog roast in Hilsea

  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • An itemised quote
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling

See how we price or the cost guide.

Prices and what affects them

There is no fixed price list, since every event is different. What matters most:

  • The number of people
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Crockery choices
  • Distance from us

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, and the quote reflects that.

Getting an accurate quote

To get the best quote, tell us:

  • Rough numbers
  • Dietary requirements
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Your date and serving time

Send us the date, the address or PO2 postcode and rough numbers, along with your serving time. We’ll check the date and send a quote. Use our quote form.

What paperwork do you provide?

Every production is different; share your list and we’ll respond.

Do you work to set times?

That’s exactly how we work, holding the roast if lunch moves.

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, and a way to wheel everything in. Send us a picture if you’re unsure.

Is there a non-pork option?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. Halal meat isn’t something we offer.

Do you need much space at base?

At base, on level ground. We’ll agree it with your location manager.

What do people get?

Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Your quote lists any sides and extras.

Looking after everyone

Some crew will not eat pork, so it’s worth adding an alternative. Helpful tips:

  • Share the allergen list with the crew
  • Ask the production office for dietary needs
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed
  • Give us vegetarian and vegan numbers

We get to base first thing, so the roast is ready by lunch.

Lamb or chicken gives the crew a choice.

About the food

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Our vegetarian option is halloumi and vegetable skewers: grilled halloumi with vegetables.

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Our vegan option is a vegan burger or sausage, in a roll, with salad on the side.

Planners, venues and businesses

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We work to the site’s rules.

If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.
