Horncastle: your questions answered
Can you do a hog roast in Calcot Park?
Only if the landowner, typically the council, allows it. Ask them first.
What’s the nearest station to Horncastle?
Reading West station, about 1.6 miles north-east of the centre.
Can you get to rural locations?
Send the location and access notes and we’ll confirm.
How do you work out quantities?
We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we’ll confirm everything in writing.
Do you need power or water?
Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.
Do you provide china?
We bring plates as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.
Can you work to the call sheet?
We plan the roast to your lunch call, and we will adjust where we can.
What do people get?
Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. You can add lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options, salads, coleslaw and potatoes.
Step by step
We cook on a gas-fired roaster, so we don’t need mains power to cook. On a winter shoot near Horncastle, the light goes by about 3:55pm, so a late lunch or wrap at base needs lighting. Summer shoots have daylight until about 9:25pm.

Looking after everyone
A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Some ways to look after everyone:
- Tell us about vegetarians and vegans
- Request gluten-free rolls
- Count crew needing an alternative
- Post allergen details at base
We serve quickly on the call.
Wrap parties can run into the evening.
Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet
Next to a full location catering unit, a hog roast is simpler and suits smaller shoots and one-off days. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. There is no one-size price, which is why each one gets its own quote.
Why Horncastle hosts choose us

- Numbers
UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. Every event gets its own quote, with everything listed.
