About our film set catering in Little London

On a long shoot day near Little London, a hot lunch on time matters. A hog roast works well at base: we roast from early and carve on the call. We serve spit-roast lamb, new potatoes and a vegan option, and we are often booked for period drama shoots and farm and estate locations.

Rural locations near Little London can be a long way from food, so lunch at base matters. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.

Little London: your questions answered

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the Surrey Hills National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

How far is Little London from London?

Roughly 26 miles from the centre of London.

Do you work to set times?

Do you need much space at base?

Typically, if there is a level, open spot for the roaster under cover. We’ll agree it with your location manager.

When should we book?

As early as you can for summer weekends and December. For other dates, a few weeks can be enough. Ask and we’ll check.

Planning for dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. A few tips:

  • Count crew needing an alternative
  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Ask the production office for dietary needs
  • Post allergen details at base

Name a contact for the day, normally locations or the production office.

How we price a hog roast for the crew

We do not use a fixed price list, because every shoot is different. What matters most:

  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • The number of people

A hog roast is often good value for a crowd, because one whole roast feeds a lot of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

What we need to know

To get the best quote, tell us:

  • The venue or postcode
  • Allergies we should know about
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • An estimate of numbers

Not sure how many to cater for? Give us your best estimate and we will quote on that, then confirm closer to the date. Use our quote form.

Step by step

The roaster is gas-fired, so we don’t need mains power to cook; a nearby socket helps with lights if service runs into the evening. On a winter shoot near Little London, the light goes by about 3:55pm, so the unit base needs lighting for late service. Summer shoots have daylight until about 9:20pm.

  1. The production office sends us the location, dates, numbers and lunch time.
  2. We check access to base and quote.
  3. We agree our position at base with the location manager.
  4. We carve to order the moment lunch is called.
  5. We pack away straight after service.

Preparing for the day

  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
