Slow-roasted pork in Mystole

Film set catering in Mystole, slow-roasted on site

Schedules move, and a slow roast copes. Name a contact in production and we’ll fit around changes. On the menu are hog roast rolls, new potatoes and rotisserie chicken, and we are regularly asked to cater crew appreciation lunches and rural locations.

Rural locations near Mystole can be a long way from food, so lunch at base matters. We bring plates as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Mystole questions

What’s the nearest station to Mystole?

Chartham station, about 0.9 miles north-east of the centre.

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

What space does the roaster need?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. A photo helps.

How do we prepare?

Just the agreed spot and a contact on the day. We bring the roaster, cover and serving kit.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. Serving inside is frequently possible, with the venue’s agreement.

How soon do you get booked up?

Popular dates go early. But do ask even at short notice: fill in our quote form.

What paperwork do you provide?

Requirements vary by production; share your list and we’ll respond.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. Please note we do not offer halal meat.

Before you choose a spot

Before the day, it helps to think about where the roaster will go. The ideal spot has:

  • Vehicle access to base
  • Shelter for crew
  • A level area at base

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before you book.

From the roaster

  • Vegan option (Ve)
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Spit-roast lamb
  • Stuffing and apple sauce
  • Hog roast rolls
  • New potatoes
  • Salads

Allergies and dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed
  • Ask the production office for dietary needs
  • Halal is not offered
  • Share the allergen list with the crew

We work to the location’s rules.

Sides make a proper lunch.

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with sandwiches from a shop, a hot hog roast keeps morale up. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Ask us and we will suggest the best fit for your budget.

Why book with us

  • Staff to serve, so you don’t have to
  • Choices for people who do not eat pork
  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
  • Sides to make it a full meal

Take a look at our prices page or the cost guide.

The menu, dish by dish

Crackling

Crackling takes hours to get right, and a whole hog roasted slowly gets it just right.

Rotisserie chicken

Chicken off the rotisserie, carved or jointed can be served in a roll or on a plate alongside the pork.

Prices and what affects them

We do not use a fixed price list, because every shoot is different. What matters most:

  • Whether you want china
  • Access to the cooking area
  • How many people are eating
  • Season and day of the week

Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

Details that help

These are the details we need:

  • What the outdoor space is like
  • Your menu choices
  • Roughly how many people
  • Any venue rules

Planning ahead? Popular dates fill up early, so ask early for summer Saturdays and December. Send us your date for a quote: fill in our quote form.

Planners, venues and businesses

Marquee suppliers generally set distances for cooking equipment, so let them know about the roaster. We will keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

If you are booking for a workplace, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We’ll fit in with site rules.

The process

Rain does not stop the roast, because we cook under cover. Your crew will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. Summer shoots near Mystole have light until about 9:15pm, which suits an evening wrap at base.

  1. You send the location, date and lunch call.
  2. You get a check on access and a quote.
  3. We agree where we set up and when we arrive.
  4. When lunch is called, we carve and serve quickly.
  5. Afterwards we clear our spot at base.

How to prepare

  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Think about shelter for your crew
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage

How to get a price

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, along with your serving time. We’ll confirm availability and send a price. Send us your details through our quote form.
