About our funeral wake catering in The Stocks

Some families choose a hog roast because it was a favourite. Tell us what matters to you and we’ll try to help. We’re often asked to cater gatherings after scattering ashes and hall gatherings after a service, serving new potatoes, rotisserie chicken and apple sauce.

For a wake near The Stocks, a farmhouse or village hall often works well, with the roaster in the yard or garden. The hog is roasted on site at your wake, low and slow, for hours, then carved fresh for your guests.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Some families mix a hog roast with cakes brought by friends, which is fine with us. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

Why us?

  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside
  • Carved to order by a chef

Take a look at how we price or what a hog roast costs.

How we price a hog roast for the wake

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • Access to the cooking area
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Plates or china
  • Time on site

Compare like for like: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote is not always the best value.

What we need to know

For a quick, accurate price, tell us:

  • Your date and serving time
  • Dietary requirements
  • A picture of the cooking area
  • The venue or postcode

If you’re comparing hog roast caterers for The Stocks, check what each quote actually includes. We spell it out in ours. For a quote, fill in our quote form.

Allergies and dietary needs

We give full allergen information for every dish. To make the most of it:

  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Stuffing generally contains gluten
  • Older guests may prefer food on plates
  • Count anyone who does not eat pork

We serve when people arrive, calmly and without fuss.

Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed.

How it works

We roast under cover, so a shower will not spoil the food. Your guests will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. Autumn and winter afternoons in The Stocks get dark early: about 7:00pm in late September and 3:50pm in December, so a later wake may need lighting outside.

  1. Contact us as soon as you have a date.
  2. We confirm the space.
  3. We cook on site.
  4. Our staff serve without fuss.
  5. We leave the venue tidy.

Getting ready for the day

  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
