Planning an event in Caring?

Hog roast for events in Caring, slow-roasted on site

Agricultural shows and country events near Caring are a natural home for a hog roast, with fields, crowds and long days. On the menu are a vegan burger or sausage, halloumi skewers and hog roast rolls, and we’re regularly asked to cater vintage rallies and PTA summer fairs.

For a village fête or field event near Caring, we can cook in a field. Tell us about the ground and the way in. Our chef carves in front of your visitors, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

For planners, venues and organisers

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before you book. We will work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

If you are planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We will keep everyone in the loop.

Full catering or machine hire?

A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is generally easier.

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

Allergies and dietary needs

We give full allergen information for every dish. To make the most of it:

  • Put the menu and allergen information on display
  • Check other traders are not all selling pork
  • Tell us what the event asks of traders
  • Remember stuffing typically contains gluten

Give us a contact on the day, especially for big events.

A vegan burger or sausage covers vegan visitors.

What a hog roast costs

We work out each quote from:

  • The date and time of year
  • Crockery choices
  • Menu choices and extras
  • The number of people

Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so we list each one in the quote. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

Getting an accurate quote

Good details mean a good quote. Useful details:

  • What the outdoor space is like
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • The date and time of the event
  • The address or postcode

Getting a quote is simple: date, place, numbers and serving time. We will reply with a clear price and what’s included. Use our quote form.

A closer look at the menu

Roast pork

The hog roasts slowly for hours, so the meat is tender and juicy, and our chef carves it to order.

Crackling

Crackling is what people queue for: crisp, golden and full of flavour, straight off the hog.

How the day works

On the day, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. In late May, sunset in Caring is about 8:50pm, while at midsummer it is about 9:15pm. Evening festivals need lighting by the stall after that.

  1. It starts with your event date, site and expected numbers.
  2. You get a check on the date and pitch, and a quote.
  3. We set up early so the roast is ready when visitors arrive.
  4. We carve and serve through the agreed hours.
  5. Afterwards we clear the pitch and go.

How to prepare

  • Ensure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
