A hog roast near Cockpole Green

Hog roast for events in Cockpole Green, slow-roasted on site

Shows and festivals last all day, and a hog roast can serve through the day. Popular choices include rotisserie chicken, halloumi skewers and crackling, and we are regularly asked to cater charity fundraisers and car and steam shows.

At a field event near Cockpole Green, power and water may be limited; the roaster runs on gas, so that is fine. The carving happens right in front of your visitors, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling.

Choosing a hog roast caterer

For event organisers in Cockpole Green

If you are organising for someone else, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, let us know who we will deal with on the day. We will keep you both updated.

If you are booking for a workplace, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We work to the site’s rules.

How we price a hog roast for your event

Your quote depends on:

  • The number of people
  • Site access
  • Plates or china
  • The date and time of year

For larger numbers, a hog roast is normally good value, since one roast goes a long way. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

Getting an accurate quote

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Rough numbers
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Allergies we should know about

To get a quote, just tell us the date, where the event is and roughly how many. A picture of the cooking area helps. Fill in our quote form.

FAQs for Cockpole Green

Which station is closest to Cockpole Green?

Shiplake station, about 1.7 miles south-west of the centre.

Is Cockpole Green close to London?

About 33 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Is mains power needed?

No, the roast is cooked on gas. Tell us what’s available and we will plan around it.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we’ll bring them. You will get allergen details for everything.

What do you need from the organiser?

Mainly a pitch and access. Everything else comes with us.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. We can often serve indoors if the venue agrees.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

Can we just hire the roaster?

Yes, we hire out the hog roast machine. We will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Space, access and the venue

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, so a few things are worth checking:

  • Permission for cooking on the site
  • A vehicle route onto the pitch
  • Space for people to queue

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before you book.

Full catering or machine hire?

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you, especially outdoors.

What happens on the day

A hog roast is always cooked outside, on a level, open spot under cover, well clear of walls, tents and trees. We will agree the spot with you beforehand. In late May, sunset in Cockpole Green is about 8:55pm, and midsummer ones until about 9:25pm. After dark, the stall needs lighting.

  1. Organisers send us the event details.
  2. We check the pitch and paperwork and quote.
  3. The roast starts before the gates open.
  4. We carve to order through the day.
  5. We pack down and take our waste.

Before we arrive

  • Give us a contact number for the day
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
