Allergies and dietary needs
A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:
- Ask for gluten-free rolls if you expect coeliac visitors
- Balance the food line-up
- Stuffing normally contains gluten
- Tell us what the event asks of traders
If the ground is soft, we will need a firm route on and off, particularly in wet weather.
A vegan burger or sausage covers vegan visitors.
Is a hog roast right for your event?
Next to cold food, hot food is popular in any season. Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote, with any London charges listed. Tell us the exact address for an accurate figure.
What you get with us

What a hog roast costs
We don’t use a fixed price list, because every event is different. The main factors are:
- The journey to the venue
- Which meats and sides you choose
- The date and time of year
- The serving time and how long we’re on site
The main driver is numbers: bigger groups usually cost less per head, since much of the cost is fixed.
What to tell us
For a quick, accurate price, send us:
- Rough numbers
- What the outdoor space is like
- Rules from the venue or landowner
- The address or postcode
Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, along with your serving time. We will check the date and send a quote. Use our quote form.

Colthrop questions
Is Colthrop too small for a hog roast?
No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.
Is Colthrop close to London?
Roughly 50 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.
What do people get?
Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Your quote lists any sides and extras.
When do you start roasting?
It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it’s several hours. We will confirm our arrival time when we quote.
How do we prepare?
A clear, level cooking spot, a route to wheel the equipment in and a contact for the day. We bring everything else.
Do you offer gluten-free rolls?
We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information.
Is electricity needed?
Cooking is gas-fired. Power helps for lighting.
Do you bring plates?
Plates are included. China is available at an extra cost.
Catered or do it yourself?
Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.
Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.
How it works
Here’s how the day normally runs: the roaster goes up and the hog goes on, the pork cooks slowly for hours, and we carve and serve at the agreed time. In late May, sunset in Colthrop is about 8:55pm, while at midsummer it is about 9:25pm. After dark, the stall needs lighting.
- You tell us the event, the pitch and the expected crowd.
- We check access to the pitch and send a price.
- We set up early so the roast is ready when visitors arrive.
- We carve rolls to order as the queue moves.
- Afterwards we clear the pitch and go.
How to prepare
- Give us final numbers a week or so before
- Name a contact for the day
- Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
How to get a price
To get a quote, just tell us the date, where the event is and roughly how many. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Fill in our quote form.

About the food
Roast pork
Everything starts with the slow-roasted pork: carved thick or thin, as people like it, straight from the roaster.
Stuffing and apple sauce
Sage and onion stuffing and apple sauce are the classic partners, balancing the rich, salty pork.
- Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
- Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
- Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
- Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
