Hog roast for events in Cosham

Hog roast for events in Cosham, slow-roasted on site

School fairs and sports days need food that families like. Pork rolls, chicken and a vegan option cover most visitors. We serve crackling, apple sauce and hog roast rolls, and typical bookings are for village fêtes and festivals.

Summer fairs around Cosham are often run by volunteers, so a trader who brings everything is a bonus. Our staff serve and clear, so nobody in your party has to serve or tidying up afterwards.

Cosham events: pitches and permissions

Cosham is about 2 miles south-west of Purbrook, in Portsmouth. We are happy to travel to Cosham for events. Cosham is one of 19 towns and villages in Portsmouth where we cater. You can also see our page for Southampton, about 15 miles away.

An event in Alexandra Park means agreeing traders and vehicle routes with the landowner, generally the council. Church fêtes, at churches such as Church of St Philip, are a natural home for a hog roast. With the sea within about 5 miles, we plan shelter from the wind for coastal events.

Here we cover the PO6, PO3 and PO2 postcode area, and we can cater your event anywhere in it. Streets in the area include Dean Road, Park Lane and Elgin Road, and an event on any of them works with a garden, drive or yard for the roaster. Cosham is on the A397, which makes the journey straightforward. Other places close to Cosham we cover include Wymering (1 mile north-west), Hilsea (1 mile south), Drayton (1 mile east), Widley (1 mile north-east) and Paulsgrove (1 mile west). Further out, we also cater in Southsea (4 miles south), Milton (3 miles south), Landport (3 miles south), Portsea (3 miles south-west), Portsmouth Point (4 miles south-west) and Fratton (3 miles south).

A little further out are Tricorn Centre (2.9 miles south) and World War I Remembrance Centre (1 mile south-east). The countryside around Cosham includes Southmoor Nature Reserve and Portsdown Hill.

  • Nearby schools include UTC Portsmouth (0.8 miles south) and Springfield School (0.8 miles east)
  • Local pubs include The First Post pub (under half a mile north)

Planners, venues and businesses

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Let us know what your event requires and we’ll tell you what we can send.

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We’ll fit in with site rules.

Full catering or machine hire?

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is generally easier.

Questions from Cosham

Can you roast near the sea around Cosham?

Yes. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

Can you do a hog roast in Alexandra Park?

Only if the landowner, typically the council, allows it. Ask them first.

Can you sell directly to visitors?

Both models are possible. We will work it out together.

How soon do you get booked up?

As early as you can for summer weekends and December. For other dates, a few weeks can be enough. Send your date and we’ll check.

Can you come to a PTA fair?

Yes, with the school’s permission. Send us the details.

Is there a non-pork option?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. We do not provide halal meat.

Do you clear up?

We pack everything away after service, so you’re not left with the mess.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

Several hours, depending on the size and the weather, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We plan the timings from when you want to eat.

The process

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, timed so it is ready when you want to eat. Late-May events in Cosham have light until about 8:55pm, while at midsummer it’s about 9:20pm. After dark, the stall needs lighting.

  1. Organisers send us the event details.
  2. We confirm the pitch and send a price.
  3. We set up early on the pitch.
  4. We serve as visitors arrive.
  5. We leave the pitch clean.

Before we arrive

  • Send final numbers in good time
  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain

Choosing a hog roast caterer

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Prices and what affects them

Each price is built from:

  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Numbers
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Which meats and sides you choose

A hog roast is frequently good value for a crowd, since one roast goes a long way. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

What we need to know

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • The venue or postcode
  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Which meats and sides you’d like

The quickest way to get a price is to tell us the date, where the event is and roughly how many. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Fill in our quote form.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
