How our hog roast for events works in Tisman's Common

For a school fair, you want food families will queue for. There are options for most visitors. Typical bookings include food and music festivals and town and village days, serving hog roast rolls, apple sauce and a vegan burger or sausage.

At a field event near Tisman's Common, power and water may be limited; the roaster runs on gas, so that’s fine. We bring plates as standard, with china available if you’d like it, at an extra cost.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Compared with burger vans, a hog roast feels more special. Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, along with distance and how easy the site is. There is no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

Why Tisman's Common hosts choose us

  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • Fresh carving at the serving station

Read our prices page and the cost guide.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

Space, access and the venue

Most gardens, car parks, yards and fields work if a few things are right. Here’s what we look for:

  • Flat, firm ground for the roaster
  • A safe distance from other traders
  • A firm way on and off the field

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

From the roaster

  • Coleslaw
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)
  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Hog roast rolls
  • Crackling
  • Stuffing and apple sauce

The menu, dish by dish

Stuffing and apple sauce

A spoonful of apple sauce and a slice of stuffing make the roll, just as they should.

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Vegan visitors can have a vegan burger or sausage, so everyone has something hot.

How it works

The roaster is gas-fired, so we don’t need mains power to cook; a nearby socket helps with lights if service runs into the evening. At midsummer, events in Tisman's Common stay light until about 9:20pm, which helps evening trading. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, the pitch needs lighting.

  1. Start with the date and numbers.
  2. We agree how food will be paid for.
  3. We arrive and set up under cover.
  4. Carving keeps the queue moving.
  5. We clear up and go.

Getting ready for the day

Planning help

Diets, allergies and alternatives

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. Here are a few tips:

  • Stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Make the stall easy to find
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if you expect coeliac visitors
  • Show allergens at the stall

Give us a contact on the day, especially for big events.
