Hog roast hire for Bitterne
Hog roast hire for your event in Bitterne
A hog roast is one of the simplest ways to feed a crowd in Bitterne: a single slow roast, carved to order. We bring the roaster, the cover and the serving kit, and our staff serve and clear. We’re often asked to cater village fêtes and school fairs and sports clubs and societies, serving halloumi skewers, salads and rotisserie chicken.
There may be a hall or playing field near Bitterne if the garden is small; any can host a hog roast with permission. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, low and slow, for hours, then carved fresh for your guests.

Working with your venue
Event organisers frequently ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Let us know what your event requires and we’ll tell you what we can send.
For events on land you do not own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.
What a hog roast costs
A few things make the biggest difference to the price:
- The journey to the venue
- Crockery choices
- Access to the cooking area
- Time on site
Numbers make the biggest difference: bigger groups usually cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.
What to tell us
When you enquire, it helps to include:
- Your menu choices
- The address or postcode
- Rough numbers
- Allergies we should know about
It is easy to get a price: date, place, numbers and serving time. We’ll reply with a clear price and what’s included. Fill in our quote form.
Planning the cooking spot
A good cooking spot makes the day run smoothly. Ideally:
- Access for our equipment, without steps
- Flat outdoor ground for the roaster and a gazebo
- Cover for your guests in bad weather
If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before booking.

Spit-roast lamb cooks slowly like the hog, and it’s carved the same way.
Why choose a hog roast in Bitterne?
Next to a street-food van, a hog roast feeds a crowd quickly from one roast. Compare like for like: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.
Why book with us
- Choices for people who do not eat pork
- Carved to order by a chef
- All the equipment comes with us
- Cooked on the day, low and slow
See our prices page and what a hog roast costs.
Allergies and dietary needs
Not everyone eats pork, so it is worth adding an alternative. A few pointers:
- Find out who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them
- We do not offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it is needed
- Put the menu on the invitation
- Remember that stuffing usually contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We get there early, cook, carve and serve, and our staff clear the serving area afterwards.
Ask for gluten-free rolls for anyone who needs them.

Common questions in Bitterne
We’re gathering after a service at Church of the Holy Saviour: can you cater?
Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you will gather.
What’s the nearest station to Bitterne?
The closest is Bitterne station, roughly 0.7 miles away.
Do you leave the area tidy?
We clear the serving area and pack away, leaving the spot as we found it.
Is it just pork?
It’s built around the hog, but lamb and chicken can be added.
What happens in bad weather?
We roast under cover, so the food isn’t affected. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.
How much room do you need?
Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, and a way to wheel everything in. Send us a picture if you’re unsure.
Is crockery included?
Plates are included. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.
Do you offer gluten-free rolls?
We can supply gluten-free rolls on request. You’ll get allergen details for everything.
How it works
Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, with the sides served alongside. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. By late September, sunset in Bitterne is around 7:10pm, and in December it is nearer 4:00pm. For anything after that, plan lights for the serving area.
