Graveney questions

What about windy coastal sites?

Yes, of course. We roast under cover and choose a sheltered spot where we can.

We’re gathering after a service at Church of All Saints: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is generally elsewhere. Tell us where you’ll gather.

Can we have lamb or chicken?

Add lamb or rotisserie chicken alongside the pork. Vegetarian and vegan options are available too.

Is crackling included?

Of course: the skin turns to crackling and everyone gets some.

Where does the hog roast go?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We’ll confirm the space with your quote.

What if it rains?

We roast under cover, so the food isn’t affected. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. We do not provide halal meat.

How much will it be?

Every booking is quoted individually, depending on numbers, menu, timings and travel. Ask us for a quote.

What the cooking area needs

It’s worth planning the cooking area in advance. The ideal spot has:

  • Nothing overhead that could catch the heat
  • A level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • A way to wheel the roaster to the spot

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

How we price a hog roast

The price comes down to:

  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • The date and time of year
  • Menu choices and extras
  • Distance from us

Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Getting an accurate quote

Good details mean a good quote. Please include:

  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • Any venue rules
  • Your menu choices
  • Your date and serving time

A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so you can compare caterers fairly. Fill in our quote form.

Graveney: venues, access and local tips

Graveney is about 2 miles east of Faversham, in Kent. We bring a hog roast to events anywhere in Graveney, as long as there’s an outdoor spot to cook. We cover 922 places in Kent, from the larger towns to small villages. We cater events right across the region, from Graveney to Canterbury (about 7 miles away).

After a service at Church of All Saints, the hog roast can be ready at a nearby hall or house. If guests are travelling by rail, Faversham station is about 2.4 miles away. The coast is within about 5 miles of Graveney, and coastal sites can be windy. We plan a sheltered cooking spot on windy days.

How it works

Service is quick once we start carving: the chef carves and the team serves, and sides go out at the same time. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. Around midsummer it stays light in Graveney until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:00pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:50pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We check the date and the cooking spot, then send a quote.
  3. We agree timings and where the roaster goes.
  4. We roast slowly on site, then carve for your guests.
  5. We serve, tidy up and leave the spot clean.

Preparing for the day

  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches

Planners, venues and businesses

For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

If you are planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We’ll keep everyone in the loop.

A hog roast compared with other options

Full catering or machine hire? Catering means we do everything; DIY hire means you roast and carve yourself. Most hosts choose catering for anything bigger than a family party. Midweek and quieter months are often easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Ask us and we’ll suggest the best fit for your budget.

What you get with us

  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours

Planning for dietary needs

Not everyone eats pork, so plan an alternative. Helpful tips:

  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Remember that stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages

We will agree a contact for the day, who can show us the cooking spot and pass on any changes.

China crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
