How our hog roast hire works in New Romney

A whole hog, roasted for hours and carved in front of your guests: that is what you get when you book a hog roast in New Romney. The classic roll comes with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling, with sides and extras to choose from. We serve halloumi skewers, coleslaw and salads, and typical bookings are for summer garden parties and weddings, day or evening.

There may be a hall or playing field near New Romney if the garden is small; any can work, with the owner’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster. We bring plates as standard, with china available if you’d like it, at an extra cost.

About the food

Roast pork

We carve as we serve, which keeps it hot and moist.

Crackling

Long, slow roasting turns the skin into crackling, and there is a piece for everyone who wants it.

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with a plated meal, a hog roast doesn’t need a kitchen, which frequently makes it better value. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

Why book with us

  • No surprises: everything in writing
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • A choice of salads and potatoes

See our prices page and our hog roast cost guide.

How it works

Rain does not stop the roast, because we cook under cover. Your guests will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. Late September evenings in New Romney lose the light at about 7:00pm, and in December it’s nearer 3:50pm. For anything after that, plan lights for the serving area.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We look at the cooking area and send a price.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
  5. We clear up and go.

Questions from New Romney

How far is New Romney from London?

Roughly 57 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

We’re gathering after a service at Church of St Nicholas: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Do you clear up?

Our staff clear up after service, leaving the spot as we found it.

Is it just pork?

Add lamb or rotisserie chicken alongside the pork. Vegetarian and vegan options are available too.

Do you do DIY hog roast hire?

DIY machine hire is available. We will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

What should we sort out beforehand?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We will bring the rest.

Can you roast in the rain?

Rain doesn’t stop the cooking. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.

How long does the roast need?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We work back from your serving time.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

Allergies and dietary needs

We give full allergen information for every dish. To make the most of it:

  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • We don’t offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it is needed

The roaster needs looking after for hours, which is our job, not yours. You can relax and enjoy the day.

We also hire out the roaster for DIY hog roasts.

How we price a hog roast

Each price is built from:

  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • The date and time of year
  • Distance from us
  • How easy it is to reach the spot

Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Ask us and we will suggest the best fit for your budget.

Details that help

When you get in touch, it helps to include:

  • Where the event is
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
  • An estimate of numbers

A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so you can compare caterers fairly. Use our quote form.
