About our hog roast hire in Portsmouth Point

In Portsmouth Point, a hog roast is an easy way to feed plenty of people: a single slow roast, carved to order. Everything comes with us, and our staff serve and clear. Popular choices include new potatoes, hog roast rolls and crackling, and we’re regularly asked to cater milestone birthdays and garden parties and barbecues.

A place like Portsmouth Point frequently has a village hall, a recreation ground or a pub garden nearby; any can host a hog roast with permission. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

The obvious catch is that a hog roast is pork. So we offer lamb, chicken and vegetarian and vegan choices too. The main driver is numbers: bigger groups typically cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Why book with us

  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • Served at the time you choose
  • A choice of salads and potatoes

Planning a hog roast in Portsmouth Point

Portsmouth Point is about 2 miles west of Southsea, in Portsmouth. We are happy to travel to Portsmouth Point for events. Portsmouth Point is one of 19 places in Portsmouth where we cater. We cater events right across the region, from Portsmouth Point to Southampton (15 miles away).

If you’re organising a summer fair for a school like St Jude's CofE Primary School, a hog roast is a crowd-pleaser. Coming by train? Portsmouth Point has its own station, Portsmouth Harbour station. The coast is within about 2 miles of Portsmouth Point, and sea breezes can be strong. We think about wind when choosing the cooking spot and putting up the cover.

For events in PO1, PO5 and PO12, we just need to know where the roaster can cook and roughly how many guests. Whether your event is on Park Road, Nobbs Lane and Bath Square or a nearby road, we can set up and roast there. Diets, allergies and alternatives

Most people love a hog roast, but it’s pork. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen information
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Count anyone who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them

If timings shift, tell us: a cooked roast can be held for a while before carving.

We also hire out the roaster for DIY hog roasts.

Should I cook it myself?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

What we serve, dish by dish

Rotisserie chicken

Chicken from the rotisserie gives people a non-pork choice, turned until the skin is golden.

Stuffing and apple sauce

A spoonful of apple sauce and a slice of stuffing turn a pork roll into a hog roast roll, just as they should.

How to compare hog roast caterers

Planners, venues and businesses

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so check before booking. We will liaise with them on access and set-up.

For venues and planners, we are happy to work alongside your team, sharing timings and a site plan.

Step by step

The roaster cooks outdoors, on a level, open spot under cover, well clear of walls, tents and trees. We agree exactly where before the day. Evenings in Portsmouth Point stay light until about 9:20pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm; once it is dark, we need light at the carving station.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and start roasting.
  4. Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. We pack everything away when everyone has eaten.

Before we arrive

  • Send final numbers in good time
  • Let us know about tight access
  • Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
