About our hog roast hire in Rowstock
We roast the hog at your event, not in a kitchen miles away, which means it’s carved hot, with crisp crackling. Add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options if you like. Typical bookings include wedding breakfasts and evening food and village fêtes and school fairs, with hog roast rolls, coleslaw and crackling.
In a hamlet or village like Rowstock, a farmyard or a neighbour’s field can make a good cooking spot. Mention gates and soft ground when you get in touch. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

Catered or do it yourself?
You could go for a cold buffet, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you, especially outdoors.
DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

How we price a hog roast
Every booking is priced individually, based on a few main things:
- How easy it is to reach the spot
- Numbers
- Crockery choices
- Season and day of the week
Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.
Getting an accurate quote
Here’s what we will ask:
- Rough numbers
- Any venue rules
- What the outdoor space is like
- Allergies we should know about
Numbers not final yet? Give us your best estimate and we will quote on that, then confirm closer to the date. Fill in our quote form.
A hog roast or other catering?
Compared with a barbecue, a hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone, instead of food coming off the grill in batches. Our guide compares the two. The main driver is numbers: bigger groups generally cost less per head, since much of the cost is fixed.
Why us?
- Sides to make it a full meal
- An itemised quote
- Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
- Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated

Diets, allergies and alternatives
Tell us about dietary needs early and we’ll help. Some ideas:
- We don’t offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it is needed
- Put the menu on the invitation
- Collect allergies with your RSVPs
- Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
We bring the cover, the carving table and the serving kit, so you only need to provide the space.
We also hire out the roaster for DIY hog roasts.
Rowstock questions
We’re gathering after a service at Church of St Matthew: can you cater?
Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is generally elsewhere. Tell us where you’ll gather.
Do you cater at venues in the North Wessex Downs National Landscape?
Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll follow the site rules.
Can we choose catered or DIY?
You can have us cook, or hire the machine. Your quote will set out what’s included.
What happens when we hire a hog roast?
You choose the date, the menu and the serving time; we do the rest. All we need is a place to cook outdoors.
Do you serve the crackling?
Yes, the crackling is shared out as we carve.
What comes with the hog roast?
Rolls with roast pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. You can add lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options, salads, coleslaw and potatoes.
How long does the roast need?
It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it is several hours. You will know our arrival time in advance.
Do we need our own staff?
You don’t need anyone else: we carve, serve and tidy up.

How it works
When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. Late September evenings in Rowstock lose the light at about 7:10pm, and at Christmas it comes at about 3:55pm. For anything after that, plan lights for the serving area.
