DIY versus a catered hog roast

You could go for a cold buffet, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you.

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Working with your venue

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers.

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and pass on anything they need from us.

Allergies and dietary needs

We give full allergen information for every dish. To make the most of it:

  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Halal isn’t offered, so arrange it separately if needed
  • Find out who does not eat pork so we can bring chicken or a vegetarian option
  • Let us know roughly how many children

If the party runs late, the roast can wait a little, so just let us know.

Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed.

How it works

Rain does not stop the roast, because we cook under cover. Your guests will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. A summer party in Ipsden stays light until about 9:25pm at midsummer, so a garden party can run well into the evening. In late September it is dark by about 7:10pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. Show us the garden or drive.
  2. We confirm it works and send a quote.
  3. On the day, we roast slowly under cover.
  4. We serve when you are ready.
  5. We leave the garden tidy.

Getting ready for the day

  • Give us a contact number for the day
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees

What a hog roast costs

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • Distance from us
  • Site access
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Plates or china

For larger numbers, a hog roast is normally good value, because one whole roast feeds a lot of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

What to tell us

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Please include:

  • Any venue rules
  • The date and time of the event
  • An estimate of numbers
  • Which meats and sides you’d like

We price every booking individually, based on numbers, menu, timings and distance. Tell us about your party for a quote: send us your details through our quote form.
