Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet
Compared with cooking for everyone yourself, a catered hog roast gives you the day back. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.
Why us?
- Our staff serve and clear
- Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
- Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
- Served at the time you choose
See our prices page and what a hog roast costs.
Allergies and dietary needs
Some guests won’t eat pork, so it’s worth adding an alternative. A few pointers:
- Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
- Remember stuffing normally contains gluten
- Ask us to label vegetarian and vegan food
- Collect dietary needs when guests reply
We get there early to start the roast, so it is cooking when guests arrive.
China crockery is available on request, at extra cost.
DIY versus a catered hog roast
A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is usually easier.
Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

What affects the price in Parkhurst
The biggest factors are:
- Time on site
- Travel to Parkhurst
- The number of people
- Season and day of the week
Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so we list each one in the quote. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.
Getting an accurate quote
We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:
- Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
- Roughly how many people
- What the outdoor space is like
- Allergies we should know about
We price every booking individually, because numbers, menu, serving time and travel vary. Ask us for a quote for your party: fill in our quote form.
Organising for someone else?
For events on land you do not own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.
Marquee suppliers generally set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.
What happens on the day
When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. Sunset in Parkhurst is about 8:55pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, so most summer parties eat in daylight. Winter parties, dark by about 4:00pm, need lights by the roaster.
- Send us your party date, address, numbers and serving time.
- We check the date and the garden or drive, then send a quote.
- On the day we arrive hours ahead and start the roast under cover.
- Our chef carves and our staff serve when you’re ready.
- Afterwards we tidy up the serving area.
Preparing for the day
- Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
- Name a contact for the day
- Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance

What we serve, dish by dish
Salads, potatoes and coleslaw
Crunchy coleslaw suits roast pork, and salads and new potatoes work well on a plate.
Roast pork
The hog roasts slowly for hours, so the meat is tender and juicy, and it is carved fresh as people come up.
