For event organisers in Rochester

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

If you are organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We’ll keep everyone in the loop.

About our party hog roast in Rochester

Party food needs to be easy to eat, so hog roast rolls are ideal. Alternatives cover anyone who doesn’t eat pork. For retirement celebrations and garden parties, we will put together a menu of a vegan burger or sausage, apple sauce and jacket potatoes for your guests.

In a town like Rochester, a garden party with a hog roast is a classic choice, and a hall or club works if the garden is small. All we need is a level spot with clearance. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, low and slow, for hours.

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with a buffet, a hog roast is hot and freshly carved, and nothing sits out all afternoon. When comparing prices, compare the same things: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.

Why Rochester hosts choose us

  • An itemised quote
  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Serving and clearing done for you

Should I cook it myself?

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Some guests won’t eat pork, so it is worth adding an alternative. Helpful tips:

  • Ask us to label vegetarian and vegan food
  • Check the allergen list, as stuffing generally contains gluten
  • Tell us how many vegetarians and vegans to expect
  • Count non-pork eaters so we can bring chicken or a vegetarian option

Warn the neighbours: the roast cooks for hours.

Sides turn rolls into a proper party meal.

What comes off the roaster

Roast pork

Slow-roasted pork is the heart of the menu: carved thick or thin, as people like it, and served hot.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Soft rolls hold the pork, stuffing and apple sauce together, perfect for eating on the move. Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

How it works

On the day, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. It then roasts slowly for several hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. Evening parties in Rochester need a little planning: it’s light until about 9:20pm in June but only about 7:00pm in late September. A string of lights over the serving table works wonders.

  1. You tell us the date, your address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. You get a check on the date and the cooking spot, and a quote.
  3. We arrive in good time and start roasting.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve when you are ready.
  5. We clear up and pack away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Send final numbers in good time
  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains

Rochester questions

What’s the nearest station to Rochester?

Rochester has its own station: Rochester station.

Can you do a hog roast in Broomhill Park?

Only if the landowner, normally the council, allows it. Ask them first.

What do you need from us on the day?

Only the space and a contact number. We bring the roaster, cover and serving kit.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

How long does the roast need?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We work back from your serving time.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

Yes, for confident cooks. We’ll explain the details with your quote.

Do you provide china?

Plates come as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.

Do children like hog roasts?

Generally, yes, so we can plan quantities.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
