A hog roast near Stubbles

Party hog roast in Stubbles, slow-roasted on site

A party at home needs a little planning for the roaster: a level spot away from the house and trees, under cover. We will help you choose. Popular choices include coleslaw, a vegan burger or sausage and hog roast rolls, and typical bookings are for back-garden get-togethers and engagement celebrations.

In a small place like Stubbles, a party in the garden or a nearby field is often the plan. Tell us about lanes and ground, and we will plan the route. Timings are planned around your party, because the roast has to start hours before you eat.

Your questions about a hog roast for your party in Stubbles

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the North Wessex Downs National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We’ll follow the site rules.

We’re gathering after a service at Church of St Clement: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is normally elsewhere. Send us the address.

Can you roast in the rain?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

Do we need a marquee for a party hog roast?

The roaster has its own cover; guests will want somewhere dry to eat if it rains.

Do you do DIY hog roast hire?

DIY machine hire is available. We will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Where does the hog roast go?

A flat, open spot outside, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. A picture helps.

Is crockery included?

We bring plates as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is often possible, with the venue’s agreement.

How the day works

We take care of everything from the first hour of roasting to clearing away, so you can enjoy your party. Autumn parties in Stubbles get dark early: about 7:10pm by late September and 4:00pm by December. Plan lights for the path and the food.

  1. Send a picture of where the roaster could go.
  2. We confirm it works and send a quote.
  3. We cook for hours on site.
  4. We serve when you are ready.
  5. We leave the garden tidy.

How to prepare

  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Name a contact for the day
  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand

Working with your venue

For events on land you do not own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

If you’re organising for someone else, whether you are a planner, a PA or on a committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We will keep you both updated.

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with takeaway pizzas, a hog roast is part of the party, not just the food. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

Why book with us

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Most people love a hog roast, but it’s pork. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Tell us how many vegetarians and vegans to expect
  • Keep the vegetarian option labelled
  • Ask about allergies on the invitation
  • Request gluten-free rolls

Warn the neighbours: roasting takes hours and the smell travels.

Sides turn rolls into a proper party meal.

Planning the cooking spot

The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Things to check:

  • Clearance from walls, fences and overhanging branches
  • Neighbours warned about the smell
  • A level patio, lawn or driveway

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before booking.

Popular choices

  • Coleslaw
  • Jacket potatoes
  • Hog roast rolls
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)
  • Stuffing and apple sauce

Catered or do it yourself?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

Prices and what affects them

The price comes down to:

  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Menu choices and extras
  • How many people are eating
  • Crockery choices

Numbers make the biggest difference: bigger groups typically cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

What we need to know

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Useful details:

  • Allergies we should know about
  • Your date and serving time
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • Where the event is

Every quote lists the menu, the serving time, staff and plates, so it’s easy to compare like for like. Send us your details through our quote form.
