Wedding hog roast in Charing, slow-roasted on site

We work with your venue on the cooking spot, timings and access well before the day, so on the day everything is in place. Popular choices include spit-roast lamb, new potatoes and halloumi skewers, and we’re regularly asked to cater vow renewals and blessings and the day after the wedding.

Weddings in a place like Charing often feel personal: a local church, then a marquee in a garden or field. The roaster cooks a safe distance from the marquee. Let us know about access. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

Catered or do it yourself?

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

For planners, venues and organisers

Marquee hire companies frequently have rules about cooking near their tents, so tell them a hog roast is coming. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

How we price a hog roast for your wedding

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • Season and day of the week
  • Site access
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • The number of people

For larger numbers, a hog roast is generally good value, since one roast goes a long way. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

What we need to know

These are the details we need:

  • Allergies we should know about
  • Where the event is
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • What the outdoor space is like

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, plus when you’d like to eat. We’ll confirm availability and send a price. Fill in our quote form.

A hog roast or other catering?

If your venue does its own catering, check whether you can bring in a hog roast. There may be a fee. Numbers make the biggest difference: the price per head generally falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

Charing questions

We are gathering after a service at Church of St Peter and St Paul: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Send us the address.

Can you do a hog roast in Spuckles and Kennelling Woods?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, normally the council, and many parks do not allow cooking. Check with them first.

Do you do evening food?

Yes, evening food is very popular. Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling go down well after dancing.

What comes with the hog roast?

Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Your quote lists any sides and extras.

Can you cater in Charing?

We do. Tell us the venue or postcode and we’ll check the date.

When should we book?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But do ask even at short notice: send us your details through our quote form.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

Within reason, we can. Give us a contact on the day and we’ll adjust.

Will guests be full?

For the main meal, add sides such as salads and potatoes; for evening food, rolls are normally enough.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Some guests won’t eat pork, so it’s worth adding an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Note which guests do not eat pork, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Collect dietary needs with RSVPs
  • Remember that stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen list

We serve and clear without fuss, and leave you to celebrate.

China crockery can be added for the wedding breakfast, quoted separately.

The process

We roast under cover, so a shower won’t spoil the food. Your guests will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. At midsummer, sunset in Charing is about 9:15pm, so we can time the carving before or after your sunset photos. Sunset is around 8:45pm in late May and 7:00pm in late September.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it’s the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking spot are agreed with you and the venue coordinator.
  4. We cook through the day and serve right on cue.
  5. Afterwards we tidy our area and leave you to the party.

Before we arrive

  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
