Wedding hog roast in Durlock, slow-roasted on site

We look after guests who don’t eat pork: lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Halal meat is not available. We serve carved roast pork, rotisserie chicken and halloumi skewers, and we’re regularly asked to cater garden weddings at home and wedding breakfasts with sides.

Rural weddings around Durlock have a magic of their own, and a whole hog roasting through the afternoon adds to it. Plan firm ground and a route for our vehicle. We bring plates as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

What happens on the day

Your timings come first. If the day runs behind, we can hold the cooked roast for a while before carving, so keep us posted on the day. In Durlock, midsummer sunset is about 9:15pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:00pm, so evening food is often carved in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 3:50pm.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking spot are agreed with you and the venue coordinator.
  4. We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. We clear away once everyone has eaten.

How to prepare

  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival

Common questions in Durlock

Do you come out to small places like Durlock?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Which station is closest to Durlock?

The closest is Sandwich station, roughly 3.5 miles away.

Is mains power needed?

The roaster runs on gas, so we do not need mains power to cook. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

Do you bring plates?

We supply plates as standard. China is available at an extra cost.

Can we offer lamb too?

Add lamb or rotisserie chicken as a second option.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is frequently possible, with the venue’s agreement.

Can we have a hog roast as the main meal?

It works well as a relaxed main meal, with alternatives for non-pork eaters.

Will our venue allow a hog roast?

Check with the venue first: rules vary. We’ll talk to them about the cooking spot.

What comes off the roaster

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Halloumi and vegetable skewers are the vegetarian choice: squeaky, salty cheese with colourful veg.

Crackling

For many people, the crackling is the best bit: crisp, golden and full of flavour, straight off the hog.

Where the roaster can go in Durlock

The cooking area is the main thing to plan. Check these:

  • Permission for outside catering
  • Power for lights in the evening
  • Serving inside the marquee or barn if allowed

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly.

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with a cold evening buffet, hot carved pork beats sandwiches every time late at night. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

Why us?

  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside

Read our pricing and the cost guide.

Planning for dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Note which guests do not eat pork, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Put a dietary question on the invitation
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen list
  • Halal is not offered, so plan separately if needed

For evening food, we carve as the dancing gets going, timed with you in advance.

Lamb alongside the pork gives guests a choice.

Working with your venue

Planning on behalf of a committee? A single point of contact keeps things simple, especially on the day.

For workplace bookings, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We work to the site’s rules.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Our chef carves the pork, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling on the side
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
