Planning an event in Marden Thorn?

Catered or do it yourself?

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Wedding hog roast near Marden Thorn

For the wedding breakfast, a hog roast becomes a plated meal: roast pork, crackling and a choice of sides, with china available on request. We’re often asked to cater second-day get-togethers and farm weddings, with rotisserie chicken, new potatoes and crackling.

A wedding in a small place like Marden Thorn frequently means a field, a barn or a family garden. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen needed, just an outdoor cooking spot. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

What a hog roast costs

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • The date and time of year
  • Distance from us
  • Time on site
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken

For larger numbers, a hog roast is typically good value, since one roast goes a long way. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

Getting an accurate quote

Here’s what we’ll ask:

  • Any venue rules
  • The venue or postcode
  • A picture of the cooking area
  • Dietary requirements

The quickest way to get a price is to send us your date, venue and numbers. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Use our quote form.

Planning for dietary needs

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. Here are a few tips:

  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Give your coordinator the final menu
  • Collect dietary needs with RSVPs
  • Give final numbers in good time

On your wedding day, the food should look after itself. We roast through the afternoon and carve at the agreed time.

Lamb alongside the pork gives guests a choice.

Working with your venue

For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

If you are a venue or event planner, we are happy to work alongside your team, sharing timings and a site plan.

Space, access and the venue

We need room to cook safely and under cover. Before booking, check:

  • Serving inside the marquee or barn if allowed
  • Clear space away from the marquee and any branches
  • Step-free access for our equipment

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

How it works

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. Golden-hour photos in Marden Thorn at midsummer come around 9:15pm, which helps us time evening food around your photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:50pm, and in late September about 7:00pm.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then quote.
  3. We fit timings around your running order.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon; our chef carves on cue.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.

Before we arrive

  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages

Your questions about a hog roast for your wedding in Marden Thorn

Do you cater at venues in the High Weald National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Is Marden Thorn too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

How much room do you need?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We will check it with you before booking.

What should we sort out beforehand?

A clear, level cooking spot, a route to wheel the equipment in and a contact for the day. We bring everything else.

Can you do gluten-free?

We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Do you provide china?

Plates are included. China is available at an extra cost.

Can we just hire the roaster?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. Ask and we will talk you through it.

How far ahead should we book?

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a barbecue, one roast feeds all your guests together. Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. We quote every event individually, with everything listed.

Why book with us

  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it

Take a look at how we price and what a hog roast costs.

About the food

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

For vegetarians, halloumi and vegetable skewers are cooked separately from the meat, so they get something hot and satisfying too.

Spit-roast lamb

Spit-roast lamb is popular alongside the pork, especially for guests who don’t eat pork.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
