About our wedding hog roast in Mud Row

The carving station becomes a focal point: people gather round as the chef carves. It feels like an occasion. Whether it’s evening receptions and vow renewals and blessings, we’ll put together a menu of rotisserie chicken, halloumi skewers and carved roast pork.

Near Mud Row, weddings are often in fields, barns or gardens. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen needed, just an outdoor cooking spot. Tell us about lanes, gates and ground conditions. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. Golden-hour photos in Mud Row at midsummer come around 9:15pm, which helps us time evening food around your photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:50pm, and in late September about 7:00pm.

What the cooking area needs

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • Lighting for evening service
  • Serving inside the marquee or barn if allowed
  • Permission for outside catering

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

From the roaster

  • Roast or jacket potatoes
  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Vegan option (Ve)
  • New potatoes
  • Salads
  • Hog roast rolls
  • Crackling
  • Spit-roast lamb
  • Stuffing and apple sauce
  • Halloumi skewers (V)

Allergies and dietary needs

We give full allergen information for every dish. To help:

  • Request gluten-free rolls if needed
  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately
  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us

We serve and clear without fuss, and leave you to celebrate.

Some couples add lights around the serving area; tell your venue or marquee supplier.

FAQs for Mud Row

Is Mud Row close to London?

Roughly 43 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Can you cater after a service at Church of All Saints?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Food is typically served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you will gather.

Is there a non-pork option?

Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. We don’t offer halal meat.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. Serving inside is often possible, with the venue’s agreement.

Do venues allow outside hog roasts?

Many do, but some only allow approved caterers or charge a fee. Ask your venue early, and we will liaise with them.

Can we just hire the roaster?

Yes, for confident cooks. We will explain the details with your quote.

Do we need to provide electricity?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Let us know what’s on site.

What happens in bad weather?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

What affects the price in Mud Row

Your quote depends on:

  • Crockery choices
  • The journey to the venue
  • How many people are eating
  • Site access

When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

What we need to know

These are the details we need:

  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • Your menu choices
  • Anything the venue has asked for

It is easy to get a price: date, place, numbers and serving time. We will reply with a clear price and what’s included. Fill in our quote form.

Working with your venue

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before booking. We will work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and pass on anything they need from us.

A hog roast compared with other options

Next to a formal three-course meal, a hog roast is more relaxed and often better value. It still feels special. Travel matters for the price: travel is included in your quote. Give us the address for an accurate figure.

What you get with us

  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Served at the time you choose

Stuffing and apple sauce

Sharp, sweet apple sauce and savoury sage and onion stuffing go with the pork perfectly. Note that stuffing typically contains gluten.

Crackling

For many people, the crackling is the best bit: golden, crunchy and salty.

Events we cater in Mud Row

It feels generous and relaxed, which suits informal weddings.

Here’s what people in Mud Row most often book a hog roast for:

  • Evening food after the first dance
  • Small, informal weddings
  • Marquee receptions
  • The main wedding meal

After a ceremony at a church like Church of All Saints, many couples move to a marquee or hall nearby, where the hog roast is waiting.
