Wedding hog roast in Salford, slow-roasted on site

As a main meal, the hog roast is served on plates: roast pork, crackling and a choice of sides, on china if you’d like. Typical bookings include late-night wedding food and post-wedding gatherings, with halloumi skewers, spit-roast lamb and new potatoes.

There is something special about a country wedding near Salford, and slow-roasted pork carved for guests adds to it. Plan firm ground and a route for our vehicle. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.

How it works

We take care of everything from the first hour of roasting to clearing away, so you can get on with your wedding. In Salford, evening wedding food frequently coincides with dusk: sunset is around 8:55pm in late May, 9:25pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September. A few lights by the serving table help guests and photos alike.

  1. We start with your date, venue, numbers and running order.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking spot are agreed with you and the venue coordinator.
  4. We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
  5. We clear away once everyone has eaten.

Before we arrive

  • Name a contact for the day
  • Have a level outdoor spot ready
  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand

Should I cook it myself?

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

What we serve, dish by dish

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Add salads, coleslaw and potatoes to make it a proper meal, especially at a sit-down event.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

A hog roast roll is designed to be eaten in the hand. Gluten-free rolls can be provided on request.

Salford: your questions answered

How far is Salford from London?

About 44 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Which station is closest to Salford?

Aspley Guise station, about 1.6 miles south of the centre.

What happens in bad weather?

Rain does not stop the cooking. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

What about coeliacs?

We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Stuffing typically contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Do you cover Salford?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, including Salford and Milton Keynes. Send us the address for a quote.

Can you work around our timings?

Within reason, we can. Keep us posted on the day and we’ll fit around changes.

Where do you cook at a marquee wedding?

Always outside, away from the marquee walls. We can serve inside the marquee if the supplier agrees.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. Ask and we’ll talk you through it.

What affects the price in Salford

We don’t use a fixed price list, because every wedding is different. What matters most:

  • How long the roast and service take
  • Distance from us
  • Site access
  • Menu choices and extras

Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

Details that help

When you contact us, please mention:

  • Dietary requirements
  • Your menu choices
  • What the outdoor space is like
  • Roughly how many people

A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so it is easy to compare like for like. Use our quote form.

Before you choose a spot

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • Permission for outside catering
  • A level, open cooking spot outside the marquee or barn
  • Space well clear of tents and trees

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

From the roaster

  • New potatoes
  • Hog roast rolls
  • Salads
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Spit-roast lamb
  • Roast or jacket potatoes
  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Vegan option (Ve)
  • Crackling
  • Stuffing and apple sauce

Planning for dietary needs

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. A few tips:

  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen list
  • Count non-pork eaters, so we can add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • If any guests need halal food, arrange it separately

On your wedding day, the food should look after itself. We roast through the afternoon and carve at the agreed time.

Planners, venues and businesses

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

If you are booking for a workplace, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We’ll fit in with site rules.

Is a hog roast right for your wedding?

Next to other evening food, a hog roast serves a crowd quickly once carving starts. For larger numbers, a hog roast is normally good value, since one roast goes a long way. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.
