BBQ catering in Heart's Delight, cooked on site

Some of the best barbecues are the ones where the host gets to sit down. We look after the grill, the serving and the clearing, while you look after your guests. Popular choices include halloumi skewers, beef brisket and chicken skewers, and we are often booked for community fun days and 18th, 21st, 40th and 50th birthdays.

A barbecue in the countryside near Heart's Delight makes a lovely summer party. Have a covered area for guests in wet weather. Everything is cooked through properly, with raw and cooked food kept apart.

How the day works

With cover over the grill, the weather rarely holds us up, though your guests will want shelter if it rains. In Heart's Delight, late May sunsets come at about 8:45pm and midsummer ones at about 9:15pm, so an early-evening barbecue is typically in daylight.

  1. First, you send us your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive in good time, put the cover up and get the barbecue hot.
  4. At serving time, the chef grills and the team serves.
  5. We pack everything away when everyone has eaten.

Getting ready for the day

  • Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Pick a spot where smoke blows away from guests

What we serve, dish by dish

Salads, coleslaw and potatoes

Coleslaw is the natural partner for pulled pork, and salads add freshness.

Beef burgers

Our chef grills beef burgers to order, hot off the barbecue.

Prices and what affects them

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • The number of people
  • Whether you want china
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays

Distance is part of the price: we include travel in the quote. Give us the address so the quote is accurate.

Getting an accurate quote

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:

  • An estimate of numbers
  • Any venue rules
  • Where the event is
  • Dietary requirements

Every event is quoted on its own, because numbers, menu, serving time and travel vary. Tell us about your event for a quote: send us your details through our quote form.

For planners, venues and organisers

For events on land you do not own, such as a park or field, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

We give full allergen information for every dish. To help:

  • Ask about allergies when guests reply
  • Tell us about children’s numbers
  • Request gluten-free rolls
  • Check the allergen information for sauces and marinades

We cook as your guests come up, while our staff serve and keep things flowing.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

Heart's Delight: your questions answered

Could you cook in Jumping Downs?

Only if the landowner, normally the council, allows it. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

How far is Heart's Delight from London?

About 58 miles from central London, and well within our area.

How far ahead should we book?

Popular dates go early. But do ask even at short notice: send us your details through our quote form.

How soon do barbecue dates go?

Summer Saturdays go first, so ask as early as you can. Weekday and off-season dates are often easier. Send us your details through our quote form.

Do you cater for vegetarians?

Yes: halloumi and vegetable skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage for vegans. Let us know how many to expect.

Will children like the BBQ?

Generally, yes: simple food in a roll suits most children. Give us a rough number of children.

Can you do halal?

No, we do not offer halal meat. Our meat-free options are there, or halal food would need to be arranged separately.

Can we mix BBQ and hog roast?

Yes, and it’s a popular combination. Tell us your numbers and we will suggest a split.

A catered barbecue compared with other options

Instead of a takeaway delivery, the cooking is part of the atmosphere, and the grill becomes a gathering point. Midweek and quieter months are frequently easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest what works.

Why book with us

  • Add a hog roast alongside
  • A full barbecue menu
  • Planned to your running order
  • Sides to make it a full meal

See how we price and menu ideas for your barbecue.

Barbecues in Heart's Delight: gardens, clubs and local tips

Heart's Delight is about 6 miles north of Hawkinge, in Kent. Heart's Delight and the surrounding area are covered for events. Heart's Delight is one of 922 towns and villages in Kent where we cater. You can also see our page for Canterbury, about 6 miles away.

Summer fairs and sports days, for a school such as Barham Church of England Primary School, frequently want a barbecue. If you had Jumping Downs in mind, ask the council or landowner first: barbecues are frequently restricted in parks. The Kent Downs National Landscape is within about 4 miles of Heart's Delight, a lovely setting for an outdoor barbecue. Venues there may restrict open cooking, so ask about their rules first.

We bring barbecues to events all over the CT4 postcode area and the streets around it. Local streets include South Barham Road, Green Hills and Railway Hill; an event on any of them works well with outdoor space and a way in. Neighbouring places where we cater events include Derringstone (1 mile north-east), Barham (1 mile north-east), Gravel Castle (1 mile east), Marley (1 mile north-west) and Out Elmstead (1 mile north). Further out, we also cater in Ashford (13 miles west), Canterbury (6 miles north-west), Dover (8 miles south-east), Folkestone (8 miles south), Ramsgate (15 miles north-east) and Whitstable (12 miles north-west).

Nearby you’ll also find Kent and Canterbury Hospital (5.3 miles north-west).

What the cooking area needs

Most gardens, yards, car parks and fields can take a barbecue if a few things are right. A quick checklist:

  • Somewhere the smoke can drift away from open windows
  • A spot well clear of buildings
  • Access through a gate or passage wide enough for our kit

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.
