Planning for dietary needs

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Some ideas:

  • Tell us who does not eat pork
  • Stuffing usually contains gluten
  • Plan separately for halal if needed
  • Tell us about dietary needs in advance

We can serve inside or out, as you prefer.

Add potatoes and apple sauce.

How we price a hog roast day

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • The number of people
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Travel to Monk's Gate

Numbers make the biggest difference: bigger groups typically cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Details that help

To check availability and the cooking area, we will need:

  • Dietary requirements
  • Any venue rules
  • The date and time of the event
  • Rough numbers

It’s easy to get a price: date, place, numbers and serving time. We’ll reply with a clear price and what’s included. Use our quote form.

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Our vegan option is a vegan burger or sausage, served in a roll with salads.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Crunchy coleslaw suits roast pork, while salads and potatoes make a plated meal.

Working with your venue

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so it’s worth asking first. We will work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

Venues often have rules for outside caterers, from approved lists to where a gas roaster can go. Check early, and pass on anything they need from us.

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to staff cooking, we take the cooking off your team. Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, plus travel and access. There is no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

What you get with us

  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • No surprises: everything in writing
  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
  • Fresh carving at the serving station

The process

It’s a relaxed, well-organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, use the cooking spot you’ve chosen, and get on with roasting and serving. In summer, Monk's Gate has daylight until about 9:20pm, so an afternoon in the garden works well. In winter, dark by about 3:55pm, a lunchtime event is better.

  1. The home tells us the date, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check the grounds and send a price.
  3. We arrive early and start the roast.
  4. We carve and serve where you choose: dining room, lounge or garden.
  5. We clear away quietly and leave the grounds tidy.

Before we arrive

  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Name a contact for the day
  • Let us know about tight access
