A hog roast near Christmas Pie

Is a hog roast right for your Christmas party?

At a winter fair, a hog roast stall is one of the most popular hot-food options. Numbers make the biggest difference: bigger groups typically cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Why Christmas Pie hosts choose us

  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
  • A choice of salads and potatoes
  • A clear quote with everything listed

About our Christmas hog roast in Christmas Pie

December is dark early, so we start in daylight and roast into the evening. The cooking area and path need lighting. We are often asked to cater office Christmas parties and boxing Day and New Year gatherings, with rotisserie chicken, apple sauce and crackling.

In a small place like Christmas Pie, December lanes are dark, so let us know about access and lighting. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

FAQs for Christmas Pie

Do you come out to small places like Christmas Pie?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

What’s the nearest station to Christmas Pie?

Christmas Pie has its own station: Wanborough station.

Is mains power needed?

The roaster runs on gas, so we do not need mains power to cook. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. Serving indoors is usually fine if the venue is happy.

Can we just hire the roaster?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. Ask and we’ll talk you through it.

Can you roast in the rain?

We roast under cover, so the food isn’t affected. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

What about guests who don’t eat pork?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. We do not provide halal meat.

When should we book?

Popular dates go early. But it’s always worth asking: use our quote form.

What we serve, dish by dish

Crackling

Long, slow roasting turns the skin into crackling, and there’s a piece for everyone who wants it.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Some guests will be vegetarian, and halloumi skewers give them a proper hot option.

The process

A typical booking goes like this: we arrive, set up under cover and start roasting, the pork cooks slowly for hours, and our chef carves it when you are ready. Christmas parties in Christmas Pie are almost always after dark: sunset is about 3:55pm in December. The cooking area is lit; tell us about lighting on the way to it.

  1. Ask early for a December date.
  2. You get a quote with the menu.
  3. We arrive while it’s light and set up under cover.
  4. We serve pork, turkey and sides.
  5. We tidy up and leave.

Should I cook it myself?

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Organising for someone else?

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We work to the site’s rules.

If the event is on someone else’s land, you’ll need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
