What we serve, dish by dish

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Halloumi and vegetable skewers are the vegetarian choice: squeaky, salty cheese with colourful veg, in a roll or on a plate.

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Tell us how many vegans to expect, and we’ll bring enough vegan burgers or sausages.

Allergies and dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. A few tips:

  • Find out who’d prefer turkey or chicken
  • Send the allergen list round before the party
  • Plan separately for anyone who needs halal food
  • Request gluten-free rolls

At the agreed time, we carve hot and serve, so food goes out straight from the roaster.

Festive lights around the serving area look great.

How we price a hog roast for your Christmas party

Here’s what affects the price:

  • Site access
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Plates or china
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken

Compare like for like: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.

Getting an accurate quote

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Please include:

  • The date and time of the event
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Any venue rules
  • An estimate of numbers

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, along with your serving time. We’ll confirm availability and send a price. Use our quote form.

The process

On the day, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. In Freefolk, December daylight ends around 4:00pm, so evening parties need lights and shelter.

  1. It starts with your date, venue and rough numbers.
  2. We check the venue and send a price.
  3. We set up in daylight and roast into the evening.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve hot food at the agreed time.
  5. We clear away, even on a dark, wet evening.

Getting ready for the day

  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • Have a level outdoor spot ready
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains

Catered or do it yourself?

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Freefolk in December: what to know

Freefolk is about 8 miles east of Andover, in Hampshire. Wherever your Christmas party is in Freefolk, we can bring the roaster, given a suitable outdoor cooking area. Freefolk is one of 683 towns and villages in Hampshire where we cater. We cater events right across the region, from Freefolk to Reading (20 miles away).

For anyone getting the train home after the party, the closest railway station is Whitchurch (Hampshire) station, roughly 1.4 miles west of the centre. A winter fair at a school like Testbourne Community School gets dark early, so hot food is popular.

Christmas parties anywhere in RG28 start with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Streets in the area include London Road and Priory Lane, and a Christmas party on any of them works with a garden, drive or yard for the roaster. Nearby, we also cater Christmas parties in Wells-in-the-Field (1 mile west), Whitchurch (1 mile west), Cole Henley (2 miles north-west), Firgo (3 miles south-west) and Hurstbourne Priors (3 miles south-west). We also serve nearby towns such as Basingstoke (9 miles east), Winchester (12 miles south), Andover (8 miles west), Tadley (11 miles north-east), Hook (15 miles east) and Hyde (12 miles south).

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Next to a plated turkey lunch, a hog roast is more relaxed. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest what works.
