Hog roast hire in Hampshire

Our hog roast hire in Hampshire

A whole hog, roasted for hours and carved in front of your guests: that is hog roast hire in Hampshire. Rolls, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling come as standard, and you can add sides and other meats. Popular choices include spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken and halloumi skewers, and typical bookings are for garden parties and barbecues and Fêtes, fairs and shows.

A typical booking goes like this: we arrive, set up under cover and start roasting, the roast cooks gently through the day, and our chef carves it when you are ready.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and start roasting.
  4. At serving time, the chef carves and the team serves.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

What it costs in Hampshire

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. There’s no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

Hog roast hire across Hampshire

Across Hampshire, we cover 23 towns and 538 villages and hamlets, so the setting can be anything from Basingstoke, Winchester and Gosport to a quiet hamlet: a level outdoor spot, a way in and a plan. The New Forest National Park, the South Downs National Park and the Surrey Hills National Landscape are within easy reach of places across Hampshire, where some venues have extra rules about cooking and vehicles. 143 of the places we cover in Hampshire are within about 6 miles of the sea, where we always think about wind when choosing a cooking spot.

Basingstoke: For a christening or gathering after a service at a church such as St Michael's Church, the roaster can be set up at a hall or home nearby. Among the historic houses close to Basingstoke are The Vyne (2.9 miles north). Historic venues often limit cooking on site, so ask early if you are booking one. Planning an evening hog roast in Basingstoke? Sunset is around 8:55pm in late May, 9:25pm at midsummer and 7:10pm in late September; after dark, the serving area and the path to it need good lighting.

The menu, dish by dish

Rotisserie chicken

Rotisserie chicken is a simple, popular alternative to pork, turned until the skin is golden.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Choose from salads, new potatoes, coleslaw and roast or jacket potatoes, to suit your event.

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to a barbecue, one roast feeds everyone at once, so nobody stands at a grill all afternoon. See our guide to hog roast or barbecue.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Plates, china and cutlery
  • Who carves and who serves
  • Arrival time and how long the roast needs
  • If the price includes VAT

Full catering or machine hire?

If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll confirm what comes with it when you ask.

You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Tips:

  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages

We bring the cover, the carving table and the serving kit, so you only need to provide the space.

We can supply china instead of standard plates, at an extra cost.

Planners, venues and businesses

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so check before booking. We’ll work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We work to the site’s rules.

Your questions about a hog roast in Hampshire

How does hog roast hire work?

We bring the roaster, roast the hog on site for hours, then our chef carves it and our staff serve, in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling.

How much will it be?

Each event is priced on its own, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Tell us about your event for a quote.

What space does the roaster need?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, and a way to wheel everything in. A picture helps.

Can you cook a hog roast in a small garden?

Access and clearance matter more than size. Tell us about the garden and we will advise.

Do we need our own staff?

You do not need anyone else: we carve, serve and tidy up.

What if it rains?

Rain does not stop the cooking. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.

Do you cover the whole of Hampshire?

We cover Hampshire and the rest of London and the South East. Send us the address for a quote.
