About our hog roast hire in Tiptoe

Our hog roast hire is fully catered: we roast, our chef carves and our staff serve. If you’d rather do it yourself, we also hire out the machine. Typical bookings include summer garden parties and clubhouse events, with coleslaw, halloumi skewers and rotisserie chicken.

In a hamlet or village like Tiptoe, a farmyard or a neighbour’s field can make a good cooking spot. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we will tell you exactly what’s in each dish.

How the day works

We get there well ahead of service, because a whole hog takes hours to roast. The smell typically brings people over long before we carve. Around midsummer it stays light in Tiptoe until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 4:05pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
  4. At serving time, the chef carves and the team serves.
  5. We pack everything away when everyone has eaten.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Give us a contact number for the day

Tiptoe: your questions answered

Do you come out to small places like Tiptoe?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Do you cater at venues in the New Forest National Park?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We’ll follow the site rules.

Is it just pork?

The hog is the centrepiece, but lamb and chicken can be added.

Can you cater in Tiptoe?

Yes. We cater across London and the South East, including Tiptoe and Hampshire. Send us the address for a quote.

What if it rains?

We roast under cover, so the food is not affected. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

Do we need to provide electricity?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Tell us what’s available and we will plan around it.

What happens after service?

We clear the serving area and pack away, and leave the area tidy.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

Yes, for confident cooks. Ask and we’ll talk you through it.

Full catering or machine hire?

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Prices and what affects them

We do not use a fixed price list, because every event is different. What matters most:

  • Distance from us
  • Plates or china
  • Site access
  • Time on site

What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

Getting an accurate quote

Good details mean a good quote. Please include:

  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • A picture of the cooking area
  • Dietary requirements
  • Your menu choices

It is easy to get a price: tell us when, where, how many and what time you’d like to eat. We will reply with a clear price and what’s included. Send us your details through our quote form.

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to a formal plated meal, a hog roast does not need a kitchen, which frequently makes it better value. Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so we list each one in the quote. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

What comes off the roaster

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Halloumi and vegetable skewers are the vegetarian choice: grilled halloumi with vegetables.

Spit-roast lamb

Spit-roast lamb cooks slowly like the hog, carved to order at the serving station, often with mint sauce.
