Hog roast hire for Winsor

Why choose a hog roast in Winsor?

Next to a buffet, hot roast pork carved in front of you is a different experience. Buffets can sit out for hours. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, and the quote reflects that.

Why book with us

  • Served at the time you choose
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Choices for people who do not eat pork
  • Staff to serve, so you do not have to

About our hog roast hire in Winsor

Hog roast hire takes the cooking off your hands. We arrive hours before you eat, set up under cover and roast slowly, then carve and serve at the time you choose. We’re frequently asked to cater festive gatherings and birthdays and anniversaries, with spit-roast lamb, coleslaw and halloumi skewers.

Somewhere as small as Winsor, a field, yard or garden is often the spot. Country lanes and long drives are fine if we know about them, and level, firm ground is the key. The hog is roasted on site at your event, low and slow, for hours, and carved only when you’re ready to eat.

FAQs for Winsor

Is Winsor too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the New Forest National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We’ll follow the site rules.

When should we book?

Popular dates go early. But it’s always worth asking: send us your details through our quote form.

Is crockery included?

We supply plates as standard. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.

Do we need our own staff?

We carve and serve for you, and we clear up when service is finished.

What meats can we have?

Add lamb or rotisserie chicken alongside the pork. Vegetarian and vegan options are available too.

Can you work around our timings?

We work back from when you want to eat, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

What comes with the hog roast?

Rolls with roast pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. You can add lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options, salads, coleslaw and potatoes.

How it works

The secret is time: the meat cooks gently until it’s tender while the skin crisps into crackling. Then it rests briefly before our chef carves. Evenings in Winsor stay light until about 9:25pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm; after dark, the serving area and the path to it need good lighting.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. We carve and serve when you’re ready to eat.
  5. We pack everything away when everyone has eaten.

Before we arrive

  • Think about shelter for your guests
  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages

About the food

Stuffing and apple sauce

Stuffing and a dollop of apple sauce make the roll, just as they should.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Some guests will be vegetarian, so halloumi and vegetable skewers make sure they’re not left with just salad.

Space, access and the venue

It’s worth planning the cooking area in advance. The ideal spot has:

  • Vehicle access close to the cooking area
  • A marquee, hall or barn as a wet-weather plan
  • A level patch of lawn, patio or hardstanding

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before you book.

Should I cook it myself?

Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Planners, venues and businesses

If you’re planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We will keep you both updated.

For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

Looking after everyone

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten, so check the allergen information
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests

Slow roasting needs attention, which is our job, not yours. You can relax and enjoy the day.

Prefer to cook yourself? Ask about DIY machine hire.

What affects the price in Winsor

The biggest factors are:

  • Numbers
  • Crockery choices
  • Season and day of the week
  • Menu choices and extras

The main driver is numbers: bigger groups typically cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Details that help

To check the date and the space, tell us:

  • Roughly how many people
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • The date and when you’d like to eat

It’s easy to get a price: date, place, numbers and serving time. We’ll reply with a clear price and what’s included. Fill in our quote form.
