Hog roast hire for your event in Bartley

We roast the hog at your event, not in a kitchen miles away, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp when it’s served. Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options can go alongside. Whether it’s work summer parties and club events and presentations, we can cook spit-roast lamb, halloumi skewers and coleslaw for your guests.

Somewhere like Bartley, a yard or firm field frequently works. Mention gates and soft ground when you get in touch. Tell us about dietary needs and allergies when you enquire, and we will tell you exactly what’s in each dish.

Working with your venue

Planning on behalf of a committee? One clear contact makes everything easier, particularly when timings shift.

Event organisers often ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Tell us what you need and we will confirm what we can provide.

Space, access and the venue

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • Vehicle access close to the cooking area
  • A sheltered place for people to eat if it rains
  • Permission from the venue or landowner

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly.

Your questions about a hog roast in Bartley

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the New Forest National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

What’s the nearest station to Bartley?

Ashurst New Forest station, about 2.2 miles south-east of the centre.

Do we need a big space?

It depends on the space and access more than size. Tell us about the garden and we will advise.

Is crackling included?

Crackling is part of every roll for anyone who wants it.

Do you bring plates?

Plates are included. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.

What happens in bad weather?

We roast under cover, so the food isn’t affected. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it is several hours. You will know our arrival time in advance.

Do you need power or water?

The roaster runs on gas, so we don’t need mains power to cook. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

A hog roast compared with other options

Next to a street-food van, a hog roast feeds a crowd quickly from one roast. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest what works.

Why us?

  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling

How it works

We get there well ahead of service, because a whole hog takes hours to roast. The smell normally brings people over long before we carve. In Bartley, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening service is typically in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 4:00pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. We carve and serve when you are ready to eat.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Preparing for the day

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Ensure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day

Allergies and dietary needs

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Tips:

  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option
  • Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled
  • Put the menu on the invitation

We’ll agree a contact for the day, who can show us the cooking spot and pass on any changes.

A second roast, lamb or chicken, gives people a choice, priced in the quote.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll confirm what comes with it when you ask.

Perfect for your event in Bartley

You don’t need much on your side: an outdoor cooking spot and a contact on the day. We bring the rest.

However big or small the event in Bartley, a slow roast goes a long way. Bookings often include:

  • Village fêtes and school fairs
  • Weddings and receptions
  • Christmas fairs
  • Birthdays and anniversaries

For a fundraiser at a school like Bartley Church of England Junior School, the roaster can cook on a pitch agreed with the school.
