Diets, allergies and alternatives

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:

  • Count anyone who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option

You will not need to worry about the food on the day. We get there early, cook, carve and serve, then clear up.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

About our hog roast hire in Leagreen

There’s nothing quite like the smell of a hog roast drifting across a garden or field. We roast slowly on site in Leagreen, then serve it in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. We serve crackling, rotisserie chicken and new potatoes, and typical bookings are for sports clubs and societies and festive gatherings.

Somewhere like Leagreen, a yard or firm field frequently works. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. We bring the people to serve and clear up, so you are not left handing out rolls.

Should I cook it myself?

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Working with your venue

For venues and planners, we’re happy to work alongside your team, sharing timings and a site plan.

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

Who books hog roast hire in Leagreen?

Most people love roast pork and crackling, and there are alternatives for everyone else.

People around Leagreen book us for everything from small get-togethers to big outdoor events. For example:

  • Summer garden parties
  • Wakes and memorial gatherings
  • Community events
  • Christmas parties

For guests coming by train, New Milton station, about 2.2 miles north-west, is the nearest station.

What your quote should include

  • Allergen information for every dish
  • Any travel or access charges
  • VAT, if it applies
  • Arrival time and how long the roast needs

A hog roast compared with other options

Catered or DIY? With catering we roast, carve and serve; with hire you do the cooking. Most hosts choose catering for anything bigger than a family party. Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

What you get with us

  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Our staff serve and clear
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it

Read our prices page or our hog roast cost guide.

The process

The roaster cooks outdoors, on a level, open spot under cover, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We agree exactly where before the day. In Leagreen, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening service is usually in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 4:05pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
  4. Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. We pack everything away when everyone has eaten.

Getting ready for the day

Leagreen: your questions answered

What about windy coastal sites?

Yes, of course. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the New Forest National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. We will explain the details with your quote.

Do you serve the food?

We carve and serve for you, and we clear up when service is finished.

Can you work around our timings?

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.

Will people get crackling?

Yes, the crackling is shared out as we carve.

Do you bring plates?

We bring plates as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.

How long does the roast need?

Several hours, depending on the size and the weather, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We plan the timings from when you want to eat.

Crackling

The skin crisps up over the hours of roasting, and we break it up so everyone gets a piece.

Roast pork

Slow-roasted pork is the heart of the menu: carved thick or thin, as people like it, and served hot.
