Slow-roasted pork in Oakridge

How our hog roast hire works in Oakridge

Hog roast hire takes the cooking off your hands. We get there early, put up the cover and roast for hours, ready to carve when you are. We’re often asked to cater weddings and receptions and staff days and open days, with halloumi skewers, coleslaw and hog roast rolls.

For a place the size of Oakridge, your own garden is often the best venue: space to cook, no venue hire and no cooking for you. Tell us about access down the drive or side of the house. Our chef carves in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

What we serve, dish by dish

Spit-roast lamb

Spit-roast lamb is popular alongside the pork, especially for guests who do not eat pork.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Choose from salads, new potatoes, coleslaw and roast or jacket potatoes, to suit your event.

Working with your venue

Event organisers frequently ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Tell us what you need and we’ll confirm what we can provide.

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so check before booking. We’ll work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

The process

Slow roasting is the whole point: the meat cooks gently until it is tender while the skin crisps into crackling. It rests for a short while before carving. Around midsummer it stays light in Oakridge until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening service is usually in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
  4. At serving time, the chef carves and the team serves.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Prices and what affects them

Here’s what affects the price:

  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • How long the roast and service take
  • The date and time of year
  • The number of people

A hog roast is frequently good value for a crowd, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

What we need to know

These are the details we need:

  • Your menu choices
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • The address or postcode

The quickest way to get a price is to tell us the date, where the event is and roughly how many. A picture of the cooking area helps. Use our quote form.

Who books hog roast hire in Oakridge?

There’s very little for you to organise: just an outdoor spot for the roaster. We bring the rest.

Whatever the occasion in Oakridge, a slow roast goes a long way. We are often asked to cater:

  • Sports clubs and societies
  • Weddings, day or evening
  • Fêtes, fairs and shows
  • Festive gatherings

For a christening or gathering after a service at a church such as Ruins Of Chapel Of The Holy Trinity, the roaster can be set up at a hall or home nearby.

What your quote should include

  • Plates, china and cutlery
  • How they handle allergens and dietary needs
  • When they arrive and when the food will be ready
  • The deposit, balance and cancellation terms

Choosing a hog roast caterer

Oakridge: your questions answered

Can you do a hog roast in Eastrop Park?

Only if the landowner, typically the council, allows it. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

We are gathering after a service at Ruins Of Chapel Of The Holy Trinity: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is normally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

How long does the roast need?

Hours rather than minutes. We will confirm our arrival time when we quote.

Do we need a big space?

Access and clearance matter more than size. Describe the space and we’ll tell you honestly.

Do we need our own staff?

No need for your own staff: we carve, serve and tidy up.

What do you need from us on the day?

Only the space and a contact number. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.

Where does the hog roast go?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, well clear of walls, tents and branches. We will confirm the space with your quote.

How far ahead should we book?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But do ask even at short notice: use our quote form.

Before you choose a spot

The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Before booking, check:

  • Vehicle access close to the cooking area
  • A step-free route to wheel the equipment in
  • Space away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

From the roaster

  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)
  • New potatoes
  • Apple sauce
  • Salads
  • Spit-roast lamb
  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Stuffing
  • Hog roast rolls
  • Roast or jacket potatoes
  • Crackling
  • Coleslaw

Anywhere in RG21 and RG24, we can bring the roaster to you, from busy streets to quiet lanes. Diets, allergies and alternatives

Some guests won’t eat pork, so it’s worth adding an alternative. Helpful tips:

  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen information
  • Put the menu on the invitation

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We get there early, cook, carve and serve, then clear up.

Ask for gluten-free rolls for anyone who needs them.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Next to a barbecue, one roast feeds everyone at once, instead of food coming off the grill in batches. Our guide compares the two. Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. Every event gets its own quote, with everything listed.
