Bringing a hog roast to Eastrop

Eastrop is about 1 mile east of Basingstoke, in Hampshire. We cater events across Eastrop and nearby, from gardens to fields. Eastrop is one of 683 places in Hampshire where we cater. We cater events right across the region, from Eastrop to Reading (about 13 miles away).

PTAs at schools such as The Costello School often look for a hot-food stall for fairs and sports days. Churches such as Church of St Mary rarely have room for a roaster, but a hall or home close by typically does.

Wherever your event is in RG21 and RG24, we can bring the roaster to you, from busy streets to quiet lanes. That could mean an event in a garden on New Road, Vyne Road and Goat Lane, as long as there’s somewhere outside to cook. Eastrop sits on or near the A3010, so getting the roaster to your event is simple. If your venue is just outside Eastrop, we also cover Oakridge (1 mile north-west), Viables (1 mile south), Lychpit (1 mile east), Popley (1 mile north) and Old Basing (2 miles east). We also serve nearby towns such as Farnborough (14 miles east), Fleet (11 miles east), Aldershot (14 miles east), Alton (9 miles south-east), Yateley (12 miles north-east) and Tadley (7 miles north-west).

Nearby you’ll also find Festival Place (within half a mile west) and Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital (1.6 miles north-west). The countryside around Eastrop includes Farleigh Hill and Daneshill Park Woods.

  • Nearby schools include Fairfields Primary School (0.5 miles south-west)
  • Local pubs include The Angel pub (less than half a mile west)

We’re frequently asked to cater weddings and receptions and Fêtes, fairs and shows, with hog roast rolls, crackling and rotisserie chicken.

In and around Eastrop, gardens and village halls are common choices. If the lane is narrow, tell us so we can plan our vehicle. Your quote spells out what’s included: serving times, the menu, staff and anything else agreed, with no surprises on the day.

Eastrop questions

Can you do a hog roast in Eastrop Park?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, generally the council, and many parks do not allow cooking. Check with them first.

Is Eastrop close to London?

Roughly 46 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

What happens when we hire a hog roast?

You choose the date, the menu and the serving time; we do the rest. All we need is a place to cook outdoors.

Can you cook a hog roast in a small garden?

Frequently, yes, if there’s a level, open spot away from the house and trees, as long as we can get the equipment in. Send us a picture.

What’s included?

Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.

Do you cover Eastrop?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, Eastrop and the rest of Hampshire included. Send us the address for a quote.

Will there be enough to go round?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you’re feeding, so a good estimate matters. We’ll confirm the menu in the quote.

A hog roast or other catering?

Catered or DIY? Catering means we do everything; DIY hire means you roast and carve yourself. Most hosts choose catering for anything bigger than a family party. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. There is no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

What you get with us

  • Staff to serve, so you do not have to
  • Timed around your day
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • We bring everything to cook and serve

See our pricing or what a hog roast costs.

Should I cook it myself?

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Looking after everyone

Some guests will not eat pork, so plan an alternative. Helpful tips:

  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • Remember that stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option

Let us know if the day runs late: a cooked roast can be held for a while before carving.

Salads, coleslaw and potatoes make it a full meal, and they’re listed in your quote.

What happens on the day

Expect a calm, organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up where we have agreed, and get on with roasting and serving. Because the roast takes hours, daylight is worth planning: in Eastrop, sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 9:25pm in late June, but by late December it is dark by about 4:00pm.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We look at the cooking area and send a price.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We clear up and go.

Preparing for the day

  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Have a level outdoor spot ready

For planners, venues and organisers

If you’re organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, let us know who we will deal with on the day. We’ll keep everyone in the loop.

Many venues set rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Check early, and tell us what they ask for.

How we price a hog roast

Your quote depends on:

  • Distance from us
  • Access to the cooking area
  • The number of people
  • The date and time of year

For larger numbers, a hog roast is typically good value, since one roast goes a long way. Extras, china and longer service add to it.
