How our hog roast hire works in Botley
Our hog roast hire is fully catered: we roast, our chef carves and our staff serve. For confident cooks, the machine can be hired on its own. Typical bookings include weddings, day or evening and festive gatherings, with hog roast rolls, spit-roast lamb and salads.
In a smaller place like Botley, a hog roast in the garden is frequently the simplest option: plenty of room, no hire fees and nobody stuck in the kitchen. Let us know how we reach the garden. We bring plates as standard, with china available if you’d like it, at an extra cost.
Working with your venue
For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.
Planning on behalf of a committee? One clear contact makes everything easier, especially on the day.

Should I cook it myself?
A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.
A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.
How we price a hog roast
A few things make the biggest difference to the price:
- The serving time and how long we are on site
- The date and time of year
- Menu choices and extras
- How easy it is to reach the spot
UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. Every event gets its own quote, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.
Getting an accurate quote
We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:
- What the outdoor space is like
- Any venue rules
- Where the event is
- Your menu choices
Not sure how many to cater for? Give us your best estimate and we’ll quote on that, then confirm closer to the date. Send us your details through our quote form.
Looking after everyone
Rolls and stuffing typically contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:
- Put the menu on the invitation
- Stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
- Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled
- Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
If timings shift, tell us: a cooked roast can be held for a while before carving.
We can supply china instead of standard plates, at an extra cost.
The process
When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, worked back from your serving time. Around midsummer it stays light in Botley until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening service is usually in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.
- You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
- We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
- On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and start roasting.
- Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
- Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.
Preparing for the day
- Send final numbers in good time
- Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
- Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat

A hog roast compared with other options
Compared with a cold buffet, a hog roast is hot, freshly carved and feels like an occasion. A buffet can sit out all afternoon. Midweek and quieter months are often easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Ask us and we will suggest the best fit for your budget.
Why us?
- Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
- All the equipment comes with us
