What affects the price in Pennington

Each booking is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • Crockery choices
  • How many people are eating
  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • Travel to Pennington

Compare like for like: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.

What we need to know

These are the details we need:

  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Your menu choices
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • The address or postcode

Not sure how many to cater for? A rough figure is fine for a first quote, and you can confirm nearer the time. Send us your details through our quote form.

How our hog roast hire works in Pennington

Hog roast hire takes the cooking off your hands. We get there early, put up the cover and roast for hours, then carve and serve at the time you choose. For birthdays and anniversaries and club events and presentations, we can cook salads, halloumi skewers and rotisserie chicken for your guests.

There may be a hall or playing field near Pennington if the garden is small; any can work, with the owner’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, low and slow, for hours, and carved only when you’re ready to eat.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Tips:

  • Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option
  • Ask about allergies when you send invitations

We will agree a contact for the day, ideally not the host, so you can enjoy yourself.

We also hire out the roaster for DIY hog roasts.

What happens on the day

We arrive hours before you want to eat, because a whole hog takes hours to roast. Your guests will smell it long before they see it. Around midsummer it stays light in Pennington until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 4:05pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We clear up and go.

Getting ready for the day

  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Let us know about tight access
  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day

Full catering or machine hire?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll confirm what comes with it when you ask.

Our full booking checklist

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Next to a barbecue, one roast feeds everyone at once, so nobody stands at a grill all afternoon. See our guide to hog roast or barbecue. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Ask us and we’ll suggest the best fit for your budget.

Why book with us

  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Fresh carving at the serving station

Read our prices page and the cost guide.

  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
