A hog roast near Greywell

How our hog roast hire works in Greywell

There’s nothing quite like the smell of a hog roast drifting across a garden or field. We cook at your venue in Greywell, low and slow, then carve the pork into rolls with all the trimmings. For corporate events and christmas fairs, we will put together a menu of rotisserie chicken, halloumi skewers and salads and more.

Somewhere as small as Greywell, a field, yard or garden is frequently the spot. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives, and level, firm ground is the key. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we’ll tell you exactly what’s in each dish.

Prices and what affects them

Here’s what affects the price:

  • Season and day of the week
  • Time on site
  • Plates or china
  • How easy it is to reach the spot

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. There is no one-size price, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Details that help

These are the details we need:

  • What the outdoor space is like
  • Your date and serving time
  • The address or postcode
  • Anything the venue has asked for

The quickest way to get a price is to send us your date, venue and numbers. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Use our quote form.

Organising for someone else?

Event organisers often ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Tell us what you need and we will tell you what we can send.

If the event is on someone else’s land, you’ll need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

The process

The roaster cooks outdoors, on a level, open spot under cover, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We agree exactly where before the day. Light matters for a long roast: in Greywell, sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 9:25pm in late June, while in December the light goes at about 4:00pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. You get an availability check and a clear quote.
  3. We agree timings and where the roaster goes.
  4. We roast slowly on site, then carve for your guests.
  5. We serve, tidy up and leave the spot clean.

How to prepare

  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Next to a barbecue, a hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone, so nobody stands at a grill all afternoon. See our guide to hog roast or barbecue. Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. Every event gets its own quote, with everything listed.

Why us?

  • No surprises: everything in writing
  • Carved to order by a chef
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling

About the food

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Our vegan option is a vegan burger or sausage, in a roll, with salad on the side.

Crackling

Crackling takes hours to get right, which is exactly what a slow hog roast gives it.

Roughly 41 miles from the centre of London.

We are gathering after a service at Church of St Mary the Virgin: can you cater?

Do you clear up?

Our staff clear the serving area, and we take our equipment with us.

How much does a hog roast cost?

Every booking is quoted individually, depending on numbers, menu, timings and travel. Tell us about your event for a quote.

Should I cook it myself?

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

  • Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
