About our hog roast hire in Funtley

In Funtley, a hog roast is an easy way to feed a lot of people: a single slow roast, carved to order. Everything comes with us, and we serve and tidy up afterwards. Popular choices include crackling, halloumi skewers and coleslaw, and we’re regularly asked to cater Fêtes, fairs and shows and parties at home.

Somewhere as small as Funtley, a field, yard or garden is often the spot. Country lanes and long drives are fine if we know about them, and firm, level ground matters most. We bring the roaster, the cover and everything we need to cook and serve, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.

How we price a hog roast

We do not use a fixed price list, because every event is different. The main factors are:

  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • Season and day of the week
  • Plates or china
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, so we quote each one individually.

What to tell us

When you contact us, please mention:

  • Where the event is
  • Allergies we should know about
  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • The date and time of the event

Numbers not final yet? A rough figure is fine for a first quote, and you can confirm nearer the time. Use our quote form.

What we serve, dish by dish

Crackling

Crackling takes hours to get right, and a whole hog roasted slowly gets it just right.

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Tell us how many vegans to expect, and we’ll bring enough vegan burgers or sausages.

Questions from Funtley

Do you come out to small places like Funtley?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

How far is Funtley from London?

About 65 miles from central London, and well within our area.

Can you cater in Funtley?

Yes, Funtley is in our area. Tell us the venue or postcode and we will check the date.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

We’ll be as flexible as we can. Keep us posted on the day and we will fit around changes.

Do you bring plates?

Plates are included. China is available at an extra cost.

What about coeliacs?

We can supply gluten-free rolls on request. We’ll give you full allergen information for every dish.

What happens in bad weather?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower does not stop us. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

Is hog roast hire catered or DIY?

Either: fully catered, where we roast, carve and serve, or DIY machine hire. Most people choose catering.

Why choose hog roast hire in Funtley?

Slow roasting can’t be faked: tender pork and proper crackling.

Whatever the occasion in Funtley, a hog roast feeds a crowd well. We are frequently asked to cater:

  • Summer garden parties
  • Christmas fairs
  • Big birthdays and anniversaries
  • Wakes

If you’re organising a summer fair for a school like Orchard Lea Infant School, a hog roast is a crowd-pleaser.

How to compare hog roast caterers

Should I cook it myself?

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Looking after everyone

Rolls and stuffing generally contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:

  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Remember that stuffing typically contains gluten, so check the allergen information
  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs

Everything for serving comes with us, so you only need to provide the space.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

The process

Rain does not stop the roast, because we cook under cover. Your guests will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. Because the roast takes hours, daylight is worth planning: in Funtley, sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, but by late December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We check availability and the space for the roaster and send a clear quote.
  3. We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
  4. Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

How to prepare

  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance

Funtley is about 1 mile north of Fareham, in Hampshire. We bring a hog roast to events anywhere in Funtley, given a suitable outdoor cooking area. We bring hog roasts to 683 places across Hampshire. Our bookings stretch from Funtley to Southampton (about 9 miles away).

For a christening or gathering after a service at a church such as Church of St Francis, the roaster can be set up at a hall or home nearby. For anyone arriving by rail, the nearest station is Fareham station, about 1.4 miles south-east. Funtley is within about 5 miles of the sea, and coastal sites can be windy. Planning the cooking spot

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • A marquee, hall or barn as a wet-weather plan
  • Space away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • Flat outdoor ground for the roaster and a gazebo

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before you book.

Next to a street-food van, a hog roast serves plenty of people from one roast, with no waiting for individual orders to cook. For larger numbers, a hog roast is generally good value, since one roast goes a long way. Extras, china and longer service add to it.
