How our hog roast hire works in Crofton
A hog roast is one of the simplest ways to feed a crowd in Crofton: one roast, slow-cooked for hours, carved in front of everyone. We bring the roaster, the cover and the serving kit, and our staff serve and clear. On the menu are spit-roast lamb, coleslaw and halloumi skewers, and we are frequently booked for village fêtes and school fairs and festive gatherings.
Somewhere like Crofton, a yard or firm field frequently works. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.
A hog roast compared with other options
Next to a barbecue, one roast feeds everyone at once, instead of food coming off the grill in batches. Our guide compares the two. Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.
Why book with us
- Served at the time you choose
- Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside
- Fresh carving at the serving station
- Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated

What we serve, dish by dish
Spit-roast lamb
Spit-roast lamb cooks slowly like the hog, and it’s carved the same way, often with mint sauce.
Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)
Vegetarians get halloumi and vegetable skewers, so they get something hot and satisfying too.
How we price a hog roast
Here’s what affects the price:
- Plates or china
- Season and day of the week
- Distance from us
- How long the roast and service take
Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote. Tell us the exact address for an accurate figure.
What we need to know
These are the details we need:
- The address or postcode
- Rough numbers
- The date and when you’d like to eat
- Dietary requirements
When you are weighing up caterers, check what each quote actually includes. Ours lists it clearly. For a quote, send us your details through our quote form.
Should I cook it myself?
If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.
DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is usually easier.
Step by step
We get there well ahead of service, because a whole hog takes hours to roast. The smell normally brings people over long before we carve. In Crofton, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening service is usually in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 4:00pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.
- It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
- We check availability and the space for the roaster and send a clear quote.
- On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
- We carve and serve when you are ready to eat.
- We clear the serving area and pack away.
Before we arrive
- Send final numbers in good time
- Ensure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
- Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
How to get a price

Diets, allergies and alternatives
Some guests won’t eat pork, so plan an alternative. A few pointers:
- Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
- Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
- Remember that stuffing generally contains gluten, so check the allergen information
- We do not offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it is needed
We will agree a contact for the day, ideally not the host, so you can enjoy yourself.
We also hire out the roaster for DIY hog roasts.
Organising for someone else?
For workplace bookings, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We work to the site’s rules.
Marquee suppliers normally set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.
