We roast the hog at your event, not in a kitchen miles away, which means it’s carved hot, with crisp crackling. Add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options if you like. Whether it’s garden parties and barbecues and work summer parties, we’ll put together a menu of salads, new potatoes and halloumi skewers for your guests.

In a rural place like Amport, roast pork in a field is hard to beat. Let us know about access and ground conditions. You will know what’s included before booking: the date, the serving time, the menu and the plates.

Organising for someone else?

If you are organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We will keep you both updated.

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Let us know what your event requires and we’ll confirm what we can provide.

What comes off the roaster

Roast pork

Slow-roasted pork is the heart of the menu: carved thick or thin, as people like it, straight from the roaster.

Rotisserie chicken

Chicken off the rotisserie, carved or jointed goes into rolls or onto plates.

What affects the price in Amport

The price comes down to:

  • Time on site
  • Crockery choices
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Access to the cooking area

Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

Details that help

When you get in touch, please mention:

  • What the outdoor space is like
  • Rough numbers
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • The date and when you’d like to eat

It’s easy to get a price: date, place, numbers and serving time. You will get a clear quote listing what’s included. Send us your details through our quote form.

Step by step

Rain doesn’t stop the roast, because we cook under cover. It’s worth planning a sheltered place for people to eat, too. Light matters for a long roast: around Amport, it stays light until about 9:25pm at midsummer, but by late December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

Getting ready for the day

  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Think about shelter for your guests
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage

Catered or do it yourself?

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

Looking after everyone

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Tips:

  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs
  • Find out who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly

Name someone to meet us, who can show us the cooking spot and pass on any changes.

We also hire out the roaster for DIY hog roasts.

How far is Amport from London?

About 67 miles from central London.

What’s the nearest station to Amport?

Grateley station, about 2.7 miles south-west of the centre.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. Serving inside is often possible, with the venue’s agreement.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. Halal meat isn’t something we offer.

Do you do DIY hog roast hire?

Yes, we hire out the hog roast machine. We’ll confirm what comes with it and how to use it.

Is crackling included?

Of course: the skin turns to crackling and everyone gets some.

Do you need power or water?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Let us know what’s on site.

Is our garden big enough?

Access and clearance matter more than size. Describe the space and we’ll tell you honestly.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
