Slow-roasted pork in Hound

Hog roast hire in Hound, carved to order

A hog roast is one of the simplest ways to feed a crowd in Hound: one roast, slow-cooked for hours, carved in front of everyone. We bring the roaster, the cover and the serving kit, and we serve and tidy up afterwards. Typical bookings include birthdays and anniversaries and summer garden parties, with halloumi skewers, salads and new potatoes.

For a rural spot like Hound, a hog roast feels right at home. Tell us about gates, tracks and the ground. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

What we serve, dish by dish

Stuffing and apple sauce

No hog roast roll is complete without sage and onion stuffing and apple sauce, balancing the rich, salty pork.

What a hog roast costs

Each booking is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Crockery choices
  • Time on site
  • Distance from us
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, so we quote each one individually.

Getting an accurate quote

Here’s what we’ll ask:

  • Where the event is
  • Roughly how many people
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Dietary requirements

A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so you can compare caterers fairly. Send us your details through our quote form.

For planners, venues and organisers

Marquee suppliers generally set distances for cooking equipment, so let them know about the roaster. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

If you’re booking for a workplace, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We’ll fit in with site rules.

If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on outside caterers and gas cooking early. The New Forest National Park is within about 7 miles of Hound. Check your venue’s rules on outside caterers. Hound is within about 2 miles of the sea, and sea breezes can be strong. We think about wind when choosing the cooking spot and putting up the cover.

Allergies and dietary needs

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Ask about allergies when you send invitations
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled

You will not need to worry about the food on the day. We get there early, cook, carve and serve, and our staff clear the serving area afterwards.

China crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

The obvious catch is that a hog roast is pork. That’s why we offer lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers and a vegan option. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, and the quote reflects that.

Your questions about a hog roast in Hound

Is Hound too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

What’s the nearest station to Hound?

Netley station, in Hound itself.

How long does the roast need?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We plan the timings from when you want to eat.

How much room do you need?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We’ll check it with you before booking.

Do we need a big space?

Access and clearance matter more than size. Tell us about the garden and we’ll advise.

Is all of Hampshire covered?

All of Hampshire is in our area. Tell us the venue for a quote.

Is there a non-pork option?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. Halal meat is not something we offer.

What do people get?

Rolls with roast pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. You can add lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options, salads, coleslaw and potatoes.

What happens on the day

Carving is part of the show: the hog is carved in front of your guests, and the crackling is shared out so everyone gets some. Late September evenings in Hound lose the light at about 7:10pm, and in December it’s nearer 4:00pm. For anything after that, plan lights for the serving area.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. At serving time, the chef carves and the team serves.
  5. We pack everything away when everyone has eaten.
