Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Crackling

The skin crisps up over the hours of roasting, and there is a piece for everyone who wants it.

Hog roast hire in Foulford, slow-roasted on site

Hiring a hog roast means a whole hog cooked slowly on site, over several hours, outdoors under cover. When it’s ready, our chef carves it and our staff serve it in soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Popular choices include crackling, rotisserie chicken and salads, and we’re regularly asked to cater village fêtes and school fairs and clubhouse events.

In a small place like Foulford, a hog roast frequently goes in a field, a farmyard or a big garden. Country lanes and long drives are fine if we know about them, and level, firm ground is the key. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we leave the spot tidy when we go.

Should I cook it myself?

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.

Your questions about a hog roast in Foulford

We’re gathering after a service at St John the Baptist: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Food is typically served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Can you do a hog roast at a venue in the New Forest National Park?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules for caterers; ask your venue. We will follow the site rules.

When do you start roasting?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We plan the timings from when you want to eat.

Do you serve the crackling?

Yes, the crackling is shared out as we carve.

Can we just hire the roaster?

Yes, we hire out the hog roast machine. We’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Do you cover the whole of Hampshire?

We cater across Hampshire, including Foulford. Contact us for a price.

How much does a hog roast cost?

Numbers, menu and travel decide the price. Tell us your date and we will send a price.

Who serves?

No need for your own staff: our chef carves and our team serves and clears.

How we price a hog roast

Here’s what affects the price:

  • The journey to the venue
  • Numbers
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Which meats and sides you choose

Midweek and quieter months are often easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest what works.

What we need to know

These are the details we need:

  • Rough numbers
  • Where the event is
  • The date and time of the event
  • Anything the venue has asked for

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many people, along with your serving time. We will confirm availability and send a price. Use our quote form.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Next to a street-food van, a hog roast feeds a crowd quickly from one roast. For larger numbers, a hog roast is normally good value, because one whole roast feeds a lot of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

Why book with us

  • A choice of salads and potatoes
  • Staff to serve, so you do not have to
  • Choices for people who do not eat pork
  • Timed around your day

How it works

When we arrive, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. By late September, sunset in Foulford is around 7:10pm, and in December it’s nearer 4:05pm. For anything after that, plan lights for the serving area.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. At serving time, the chef carves and the team serves.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Choosing a hog roast caterer

Organising for someone else?

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Tell us what you need and we’ll tell you what we can send.

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so check before you book. We’ll work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

Before you choose a spot

The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Things to check:

  • Space away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • A marquee, hall or barn as a wet-weather plan
  • Somewhere nearby to park our vehicle

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before you book.
