About our hog roast hire in Sprat's Down
With hog roast hire, the cooking happens at your event, which means it’s carved hot, with crisp crackling. Add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options if you like. We’re often asked to cater clubhouse events and christmas parties, serving rotisserie chicken, hog roast rolls and spit-roast lamb.
In a rural place like Sprat's Down, roast pork in a field is hard to beat. Tell us about gates, tracks and the ground. Timings are planned around your event, working back from when you want to eat, so the food is ready at the right moment.
Should I cook it myself?
Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.
DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

Organising for someone else?

How the day works
A hog roast is always cooked outside, on a level, open spot under cover, well clear of walls, tents and trees. We’ll agree the spot with you beforehand. In Sprat's Down, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 4:00pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.
- You share the when, where and how many.
- We look at the cooking area and send a price.
- We arrive early, set up under cover and start roasting.
- The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
- We pack away and leave you to it.

Allergies and dietary needs
Some guests won’t eat pork, so it is worth adding an alternative. A few pointers:
- Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
- Collect allergies with your RSVPs
- Put the menu on the invitation
- If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
The roaster needs looking after for hours, which is our job, not yours. You can relax and enjoy the day.
