Hog roast hire for Lord's Wood

How our hog roast hire works in Lord's Wood

The smell of roasting pork is half the appeal. We roast slowly on site in Lord's Wood, then carve the pork into rolls with all the trimmings. We are often asked to cater club events and presentations and wakes, serving spit-roast lamb, halloumi skewers and coleslaw.

In a rural place like Lord's Wood, roast pork in a field is hard to beat. Tell us about gates, tracks and the ground. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we will give you the allergen information for every dish.

How the day works

A hog roast is always cooked outside, on a level, open spot under cover, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We will agree the spot with you beforehand. By late September, sunset in Lord's Wood is around 7:10pm, and at Christmas it comes at about 4:00pm. After dark, a lit path to the food makes a difference.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
  4. At serving time, the chef carves and the team serves.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Planning for dietary needs

Tell us about dietary needs early and we’ll help. Tips:

  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Find out who does not eat pork, and order an alternative for them

Let us know if the day runs late: a cooked roast can be held for a while before carving.

China crockery is available on request, at an extra cost.

Should I cook it myself?

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

What we serve, dish by dish

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Choose from salads, new potatoes, coleslaw and roast or jacket potatoes, to suit your event.

Rotisserie chicken

For guests who don’t eat pork, rotisserie chicken is the easy answer, and it suits fussy eaters.

Lord's Wood: your questions answered

Is Lord's Wood close to London?

About 64 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

What’s the nearest station to Lord's Wood?

Eastleigh station, about 1.6 miles south-west of the centre.

Is it just pork?

Pork is the classic, and you can add spit-roast lamb or rotisserie chicken. There are vegetarian and vegan options as well.

Can you work around our timings?

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. We will explain the details with your quote.

Can you roast in the rain?

We cook under a gazebo, so rain isn’t a problem for the roast. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

Do we need a big space?

Many gardens are big enough, as long as we can get the equipment in. A photo helps us check.

Do you serve the food?

We carve and serve for you, then clear the serving area afterwards.

How we price a hog roast

We don’t use a fixed price list, since every event is different. The main factors are:

  • How long the roast and service take
  • The number of people
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Access to the cooking area

Distance is part of the price: we include travel in the quote. Give us the address so the quote is accurate.

What to tell us

To check the date and the space, we will need:

  • Allergies we should know about
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • A photo of the cooking area
  • Your date and serving time

Not sure how many to cater for? A rough figure is fine for a first quote, and you can confirm nearer the time. Fill in our quote form.

Planners, venues and businesses

If you are planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We will keep everyone in the loop.

If the event is on someone else’s land, you’ll need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.
